How to get Ethernet in my bedroom?

Never really knew how this kind of stuff worked. Instead of getting a long Ethernet cable to go from the router in my mom's bedroom to my room (and drilling holes in walls), is there a way to use the extra modem-router I have lying around and use it as another Ethernet/wireless hub in my room? Can I use a Y-splitter from the cable AT&T has going into our house from outside and have another one going into my room to do the same thing?

Thanks. Any and all suggestions appreciated.

Thanks! I might go the Powerline Adapter route only if I don't see me needing to boost my wireless signal around my entire home... which I kind of do. For the time being though, Ethernet for my PS4 appears to be a must. I really would like to have it for the PS3 in the family room though, so perhaps I look at MoCA. Just uncertain at the moment. I appreciate your suggestions, though!

The cavaet with powerline adapter is that if you have an old house, and the wiring is all messed up on it, ie the grids aren't connected, you may not get the maximum throughput. You won't be able to tell, however, until you buy one.

FYI, you can use multiple powerline adapters. You buy them in pairs. Plug one of them near your router, connect it from the router to the powerline. Then on the other end, you plug it in your room, and then into your device. If you have multiple devices in the same room, then you can just plug the powerline into a switch and then split the connection that way.

I use a PL adaptor to get a connection to other end of house for Daughters XBOX360 and it worked great.

Powerline adaptors seem to go on sale monthly on slickdeals.net (tigerdirect or newegg is usually the seller)

Any chance they come in threes? I'd love to get one into the living room to pair with the one plugged into the router, if possible.

I use them too..was told by an IT guy at my job years ago and ive been happy ever since.

I had windows 8 when it first released and it wouldnt take just any kind of drivers yet so i couldnt use a wireless card or wireless usb and those things were life savers.

Well, if you are using a router you would have to do a wired CAT5 connection from the router to the powerline adapter for networking capability. The WD powerline adapter I use has 4 ports for expanding capability in any other room in which you use it (plus 4 ports at the main juncture as well).
