    Options and alternatives to DirecTV

Me and the wife will be cancelling the subscription in the next couple week. We are moving to a new, nicer house, but the rent is a little more. To save some money we decided, for the time being, to cancel DTV. We've got a few kids and i work 8-5, so late evenings after they've gone to bed we spend time watching a few shows a week together. Most will be on basic cable, but a few aren't. We will have internet, so Netflix will be in our future (we dont currently have it).

I was wondering if anybody else was without a major cable or satellite provider and could shine some light on media they watch and how they get it.

ESPN3 will come in handy for me and my sports addiction. But that doesnt help my wife lol.

Hulu and Sling TV are good options.
    MLB: Texas Rangers
    Soccer: FC Dallas, Fleetwood Town
    NCAA: SMU, UTA
    NFL: Dallas Cowboys
    NHL: Dallas Stars
    NBA: Dallas Mavericks

ESPN3 will not get you any games that are on ESPN channels.

Right now the only way to get ESPN is to get the Slingtv.

Depending on your reception, over the air (OTA) antenna for free live tv.

If you have a relative or close friend (who happens to like the same sports teams) , you could get a Slingbox and hook it up on their service.

Obviously, there's netflix (much less per month).

Also, Kodi/XBMC with video add-ons. (free)

Hulu and Netflix are the best places to start sports wise it all depends if your an NBA fan and willing to schill out alot of money i think you can get League Pass without a cable subscription and if your a WWE or MMA fan theres WWE network and UFC Fight Pass, i would reccomend getting Roku or Apple TV for your wife for any stuff you cant find via Netflix or Hulu

it was merged with WatchESPN but uses internet providers for the access, it was available before WatchESPN ... it still exists, but now they only show games that are not on ESPN channels and most likely not on TV any where

WatchESPN lets you watch whatever is on airing on ESPN. At least I am pretty sure I did this like 2 Fridays ago to watch the Mavericks play. You may have to have a cable login to gain access though.

I've watched football games on ESPN or ESPN2 before online through WatchESPN I thought...I do have to sign in through my cable provider, and don't know if I'd have access just if I got internet through them....

Probably not, but I don't know.

It's online only if you haven't gathered that yet. www.watchespn.com

It's actually pretty great. When I'm at my girlfriends apt I can still watch ESPN on her laptop that's hooked up to the TV with my login.

my wife & I use Sling TV, which just added AMC, so it's perfect for The Walking Dead & Better Call Saul. We have a Mohu Leaf to pick up all the OTA channels.. We also have an Amazon Fire TV to use Netflix, along with another program that shall remain nameless..
