    Home Security systems

I'm about to be married, just bought a house, I'm very concerned about home security..any of you guys got any recommendations for how to secure your house against burglars and home invaders? I have Lifeshield coming on Friday to install a home security system but I also want to get a 4 or 8 camera system around my house. Looking for recommendations...

    Re: Home Security systems

I live in a bad neighborhood and I just use a home security system and those things you put under the door handle so you can't open the door. I have a random door that leads outside in my bedroom.

<html><strike>Get a pistol or a shotgun if you do not already own one.</strike></html>

Edit: Somehow I didn't see "Systems" in the thread title, so I thought Odogg was asking for suggestions on "Home Security" in general.

because those will protect you if your not home. If you want a gun, get one. If you dont want one, dont get one. I do not have expertise in the home security field but I can recommend a good dog, I got a lab who barks when someone is at the door, she is a sweetheart but I think the bark is enough to deter someone from breaking in.

If I was going to have a home Security I would probably go with a DIY system and the first place I would go is here: http://www.cnet.com/news/diy-home-security-roundup/

Check out Swann at best buy, 250-400 gets you a pretty good setup. Just get 1080p and as many gigs a dvr as you can. I also second the dog and motion sensor lights. Both have stopped potential break ins at my house.

I live in the bush set off from the road, two weeks ago I came home to two sets of tracks in the fresh snow, addidas and dc's they walked up my driveway and at the spot the motion lights come on they stopped turned around and left. I drove up the road found a door knob in the middle of the road and checked my neighbors house's. I saw tracks at two of my neighbors driveways checked that they matched and called the cops.
Cop shows up and we went checking houses. Makes me wish I had cameras if it had been the day before I or my neighbors wouldn't have known people had been creeping around our houses. Pisses me off that this is the world we live in.

Replace all of the outside lights with motion sensor lights.

Check reviews and actual footage of the security systems. You don't want something that ends up just being props because it performs horribly at night.

Look and see if installing these security items will help lower insurance payments.

I'm looking into the same thing. Hoping that having the chief of police, 2 doors down from me is enough of a deterrent. Police SUV sitting out front.
