    Windows 10

I just got a notification to reserve a free Windows 10 update in my taskbar. Has anyone been following news about this OS? Will it be worth the update? I hung on to XP forever and I'm only using Windows 7 now. Not sure if this will be worth checking out or not.

Win10 is a free upgrade for 7 & 8 users. It'll be out officially at the end of July.

My boss has been using it for the last two weeks (we're an IT consulting firm) and it's certainly much better than Windows 8. I'll probably be upgrading my office desktop in the next week or two so I'll post some feedback here after spending some time with it.

For home use, there's probably no reason to leave Windows 7 in the near future.

I did too and reserved my upgrade. My thoughts are you should because I do feel "10" will open the door to lots of more possibilities. Especially, if you use MS products. However, the need is not imminent.

I do know that on Jan 13, 2015 MS mainstream support for Windows 7 Service Pack (SP) ended. Extended support doesn't end until January 14, 2020 for Windows 7 SP1.
"Mainstream support" is the period during which Microsoft provides for free security and non-security updates and telephone support for its products. "Extended support" -- the period during which Microsoft continues to provide for free security updates for products

Those requirements are less than what it takes to move from XP to Windows 7. I wonder if Windows 10 takes up even less resources than 8.1?

I haven't bothered trying to look for the upgrade because I want to wait to see if there are any bugs that need to be worked out.

When 8 came out there were simple things like drivers that I couldn't get to work and it was a headache. Took a year for them to square all of that stuff away completely, so I'll reserve but wait for some reviews before jumping in head first. I am interested in what will be done with DX12

I reserved just now, I'll wait for reviews from others on here before I install it or not.

When I get it I'll install it immediately, I'm coming from 8.1 and will be glad to be done with it.

Lol i know people hate 8.1.. its pretty smooth for me but after adding a classic shell like program of course.

I'm not against an upgrade from it in just more sceptical of MS.

Also i hated the first look of 10. Looked like a cross monstrsity of of 8.1 and 7.

                    stupid question:

Is Windows 7 the same as Windows 7 SP1? I checked via the MS site to see for sure what version I have and it just says Windows 7.

You should check to see if you have the latest version. It won't look different if not but you could be missing a few under the hood features

It is. SP1 are Service Packs from MS (add ons/ securities/ etc)

I didn't upgrade to 8 and glad I didn't. One of the new features with Win10 will be its compatibility with Android. MS is finally realizing (which makes me happy) to now include partners instead of suppressing them. We still know what they want back. What they once had. They're doing things differently now. I mean Win10 upgrade for free!?! (well guarantee license holders that is).

Not sure how I feel about having Cortena pop up on my screen yet. Hopefully she can be turned "off"

I believe that is true. At a minimum they should be able to port very easily. I think you just need to run the app and should have access to the xbox games.
