Still waiting for the installation. I never got any message yet to install it,even though I reserved it awhile ago!

Did you check that "Get Windows 10" app that's been sitting in the notification bar? It didn't pop up a notification automatically for me, but once I clicked on that it said it was ready to install. Again, it had to have downloaded quietly at some point because otherwise there's no way the entire process would have taken only 30-45 minutes with my internet connection.

They are also doing it in waves, so everyone may not get it at once.

I haven't done it, and may just wait a week or so to make sure things get stable...

You can install it manually, if you don't want to wait for the windows upgrade to work

I haven't had any luck on a Win 7 Pro x64 laptop or a Win 8.1 x64 tablet (Dell Venue).

On the Win 7 machine the cmd prompt command worked to initiate the download and I now have a 5.5 GB $Windows -BT folder in the root of my C:\. After that, nothing, been sitting there for six hours. I tried running the setup file in that folder but get a "boot.wim not found, installation failed" error.

On the Win 8 machine I also have the $Windows -BT folder but only 140 MB has downloaded and that was almost instant after running the same command as above - since then it's been sitting there for about four hours.

If I click on the upgrade icon in the system tray on both machines it just tells me my reservation is set and I'll be notified when the computer is ready to upgrade.

Do I need to use usb or dvd? Will anything happen if I just do the update through the computer without putting anything on a usb or dvd? Didn't backup any files on PC so hoping nothing goes wrong.

So there's no chance this stuff can wipe out documents/pics and stuff you got on your computer?

Cause some sites say you just install it and that's it, others make it sound like there's various prompts throughout installation which ask you about getting rid of your files(doing a clean install)?

I received no prompt about a clean installation from 8.1 to 10. I could still do it now that 10 is installed, but I wanted to get the upgrade process out of the way before even considering it to avoid any potential hangups with activation, etc.

If you simply upgrade and don't clean install, your files should still be there. The upgrade didn't even move any of the icons on my desktop around.

Every file, picture and video I had on my system prior to the upgrade opens up just fine (in the new default movie player simply titled "Movies & TV", though I'll probably change my default back to VLC)

Use the upgrade option. You use the .iso when you wanna do a clean install after you upgrade. The whole process took about 30 minutes for me and all my files were untouched from the previous windows installation

Used it for months, it's great. I look forward to DX12 games and PC to Xbox streaming if it happens.

Interested in others impressions as they move from 7 to 10 especially.

You use a usb/dvd if you wanna put the iso on them to do a clean install after you've upgraded to win 10

I dont wanna do a clean install. I've been trying the command prompt for awhile,but the update fails once it finishes the 5-8gb download and reaches 100% when it says preparing installation
