When you download and run the program that I linked earlier it will give you 2 options. "Upgrade this machine" and one where you create an iso. You would choose the upgrade option, then it will install the os and all of your files from your previous os will still be there.

Can you create the iso after upgrading? I want to create an iso in case I have issues and need to do a clean install. I know I can create one from the download files before the upgrade, but haven't looked at the process to do it yet.

OS loads, updates some apps, etc and you're done.

Do a system image after the update, should be similar to how win 7 handled it. Then take the image and make a iso to disk, usb, or whatever means you want to store it.

For some reason it won't finish, when it goes to verify download it gets to about 60% then stops and says something happened

I need to get an SSD for my desktop. Should I purchase and install that first before upgrading/installing Windows 10?

Finally got it to install! Its definitely better than windows 8,but i dont like any of these app stuff. Will try to uninstall them later. Also, how do you get start menu to show all programs? Like how it was on windows 7 and before where you open all programs from start menu and it showed everything from accessories with calculator, character map, defragment, and so on,all the way to just showing programs like word, excel and stuff?

                      Re: Windows 10

Despite me not having done a lot of voice recognition stuff before, Cortana's pretty good at picking out things to open when I say something close to the full name. It's hard to really understand the limits of that because my drive is still being indexed, but it was able to open MS Word, Calculator, Control Panel, Steam, Fraps, Starcraft 1/2 and Warcraft 3 just from saying their names. For those latter 2, it displayed a list because I have both Broodwar and SC2 installed, and WC3 has a map editor in addition to its normal executable. WC3 was especially interesting because it detected what I said as "work rest 3" in the chat box, but was apparently smart enough to know I was talking about Warcraft since I said "open" (implying an application on my system) right before it.

I'll be interested to see just how far that goes when the drive is fully indexed - pretty cool.

I have to wonder what sort of weird questions Cortana's been asked already. Then again, maybe I'd rather not know.

I think the "All Apps" section at the very bottom of the Start Menu will give you what you're looking for - and the Accessories and Maintenance stuff (Defrag, etc) will both be found in the W (for Windows) section.

Guess i gotta delete abunch of those apps then, cause it serves no purpose. Still don't know if i wanna upgrade from 7 though cause i really like that one.

For those who switched from 7 to 10,what would you say are the pros/cons of the switch?

This is really getting on my nerves now, first it would download and then went to Verifying download and it would stop. Opened up Windows Update and there were updates there so I installed them. Now when I try to download after pressing upgrade this PC it just says Downloading Windows Progress 0% and has been like that for about 20 minutes now. This is the second time i've tried with a progress of 0% after quite a few minutes...any ideas?

It didn't work for me when I was doing the windows update stuff. I still think I just got lucky with it eventually working, but basically, doing what the reddit people said to do,actually did work.

                              By that, I mean:
Deleting(or even just temporarily moving) every file in the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download folder.

Then opening up command prompt(run as administrator) and enter wuauclt.exe /updatenow (I'm guessing you have to leave a space after .exe and /)

Then open up the windows update window and the windows 10 stuff should start happening.
I tried it once, and it didn't work(it downloaded over 5GB,spent almost an hour with the preparing for installation stuff, and then it just failed after). But then I tried it an hour or so later, doing same thing, and suddenly it was an 8GB download, and it actually went through with the entire installation
