That's one of first things I did lol. I went into the privacy settings from the settings option on start menu and deactivated like everything. People should do it too. It's surprising just how many apps have enabled access to information, location among other things. None of which they really need to,so people should be safe and deactivate it.

Anyone get the built in Mail & Calendar apps to work? I put in an Office 365 account but it's been stuck on "still working on it" for hours. Not a big mailbox either.

I'm having trouble understanding where the word "upgrade" applies here. I hear differences, I hear hassles, but not hearing upgrade.

Have only updated my Surface Pro 2 so far and I was one that actually liked Windows 8.1/it never annoyed me so I really like it.

Going to do my desktop today sometime but great info above with the privacy issues, going to turn those off now.

So apparently all my documents are now read only and it won't let me save anything with the exception of OneNote which autosaves as you work. Also, though it initially had me using the same password i'd used with 7 ever since I got this computer to sign in to Windows & unlock the computer the first few times I had to do so with 10, it inexplicably and without warning switched to making me use my Microsoft password to do so.

Has anyone tried out that voice command thing on windows 10? What's it like so far?

Kinda want to try it out,but you have to let it have access to EVERYTHING(basically all the privacy settings you can set to off,you have to enable it). And apparently stuff like voice data gets saved by microsoft too or something like that...

How exactly does it work? Can you just be like "shut down computer" and the computer will shut down"? Or be like "Open internet" and the browser opens?

I still haven't gotten it yet. Is it supposed to take this long? It says that I signed up and all of that.

Coming out in waves. I got email recently saying it could be days or weeks! And i signed up during the earlier days of the signups too! Thankfully the command prompt stuff worked so i did get it days/weeks earlier than if i waited

remove your microsoft account, I never signed into mine in 8.1 even though they tried to force you to

From a Tiger Woods Coursedownloads member:

I would advise not upgrading to W10 right away. Let them work out the kinks first. I am a professional remote support (freelance) techie for Windows Operating Systems, I honestly know my stuff very well.

I have advised everyone I know that since Windows 7 will receive Windows Updates until Jan 2020, there is no rush to get into a new operating system from Microsoft.

IMHO, Microsoft is doing such a huge advertising campaign this time around they are making Windows users feel compelled to upgrade to Windows 10, just because it''s free. I have to install all new operating systems from Microsoft for consumers because I need to know how to repair, tweak and optimize the systems. I installed the W10 upgrade and was not impressed with the final version. To be candid, it''s still much easier for the average computer user to navigate Windows 7.

In a few words: Windows 10 has too much junk in it in terms of the Start Menu/All Programs. Windows 7 has those two featues in excellently configured and everyone loves a helpful Start Button.

I also believe Windows 7 to be the flagship Operating System from Microsoft since Windows XP.

Last but not least, the old adage: "if it ain''t broken, don''t fix it."

I'm really enjoying it so far. The slow restart issue I was having has worked itself out. Everything is running nice and smooth. Really loving the Xbox app and being able to stream from the One, well worth the upgrade.

I am loving it. I like how they kept the tiles but put it in the start menu. I can put my most used programs there and get rid of my desktop shortcuts. It feels new , fresh and it works great.

Also folks if you havent already be sure to run disk cleanup to easily get rid of the old windows installation if you plan to keep Win 10. That is ~100gb of space. The easiest way is use the search field on the task bar ( I switched mine to the search icon ) and search for free up and it will auto find the program.

Ok guys, I'm an idiot when it comes to technology. I know nothing about computer updates and this that and the other.

My wife is shopping with her Mother and she mentioned how nice it would be if I could take her old laptop, and update it with Windows 10.

This laptop is a few years old to say the least and is operating with Windows Vista (YUCK!). Can someone explain to an ignorant, technologically inclined person how in the world to upgrade this thing?

                                Thank you in advance.
