Re: The X-Files
Episode 3 was one of my favorites of the whole series. I enjoy the comedy themed episodes of the x files. Duchovney was great in this one as usual.Comment

Re: The X-Files
Wow, I actually HATED the last episode. All of the excitement of the X-Files coming back is aided by it being such a great show when we don't have many anymore... and they put out that cheesy crap? If I didn't know about the X-Files, the last show would've made me give up on it all together. I barely got through the entire episode.Comment

Re: The X-Files
There’s an interesting through line between those episodes: humor. Given how darkly serious The X-Files is most of the time, it’s easy to forget how damn funny the show could be. Granted, the reason those episodes worked so well is because of tonal whiplash; the wacky feel was a welcomed breath of fresh air.
I guess that's tough to balance with only 6 episodes to work with, but I felt like Disney took over the show for an episode.Comment

During the original run, some of the comedy episodes worked for me, some didn't, this one definitely work for me, but as you say, I can see why some people would hate it.Jordan Mychal Lemos

Re: The X-Files
If you don't enjoy the quirky comedy X-files episodes I can see how you would hate this one. I've always thought Duchovney and Anderson are fantastic at the tongue in cheek humor and poking fun at the shows characters and storylines. The writing was really good in this one. A monster that bites a human and immediately starts to worry about getting a job and his retirement benefits I thought was hilarious.
It was too over the top for me too. The alien "suit" was so unrealistic, I assume on purpose, but come on... you're pitching that he's really an alien. Get em at least up to the Grimm level, even in tighty whities.Comment

Re: The X-Files
I thought they were fine as a change of pace. My problem is I'm just getting back into "X-Files Mode" and don't need a change of pace. Don't waste that goodness on a novelty episode. Other shows with 6 episodes only won't have a Valentines Day episode.

Re: The X-Files
Not trying to convince anyone to like the episode (I think Darin Morgan episodes are love-em or leave-em sort of deals, although I think he's the series' best writer), but I do think that despite the episode being sort of too tongue-in-cheek and jokey, it actually was a pretty scathing indictment about human nature and how we are actually the monster(s) in the world. I think Guy's (oblivious, unintentional) commentary on humans is pretty bleak and dark, actually - moreso in a lot of ways than many of the more 'serious' episodes of the series. I also liked that it was a mystery that totally wrong-foots you throughout the entire episode, not the type of thing where you (audience) knows what is really going on and the episode is about Mulder & Scully slowly learning what you already know.
Although I kept thinking he was going to try to pitch a used-car commercial to Bret and Jermaine.....
Pedantic/immaterial point of the day: I think it's supposed to be an animal that exists on earth (like some sort of mutant horny toad) but that just has an unbelievably long hibernation period, hence why no one's ever seen it before.Last edited by pietasterp; 02-04-2016, 02:31 PM.Comment

Re: The X-Files
I think I read the episodes are airing out of the order they were originally intended, so perhaps that has something to do with it seeming "too early" for a curveball episode?

And I hear you on the deeper meaning tied to the episode but even that train of thought is so left field in this situation IMO. I definitely appreciate a comedy that has that kind of deep meaning intertwined but you have to be in the right mood for the right show/movie, and if I'm in "X-Files" mood, I just see the goofiness and bad costume more than appreciate the deeper meaning.
As for the costume, I'm sorry they had to try to make that thing look as bad as it did. In this day and age... and for the X-Files of all shows, they've gotta do better than that. I just assumed we'd find out at some point that it was a fake costume until we saw him transform (which, ironically, was really well done).Comment
