    Scream (TV Show)

So MTV is creating a TV show based off the movie series. The description in the TV guide says, "A high school student's murder stirs memories of a similar slaying that took place 20 years earlier.

    Re: Scream (TV Show)

I don't need the original characters to watch a continuation of the series, but I would like this to be thematically similar to the first four films. The fourth one deviated a little bit, but it was still Scream... maybe even more so than the third one. Gimme Ghostface, a knife, Roger Jackson's voice, the meta horror genre analysis, and a few quirky characters and you just may have the making of a hit!

I'll tune in for a few episodes, but sometimes without extreme gore and use of the F-bomb, it could be deterring. Also, playing too long of a "whodunit" with obviously very many twists and misleads might get tiresome.

Didn't watch the trailer yet, by the way (at work). I'll probably just go into it open-minded. I do remember seeing a quick commercial with a camera panning of just a bunch of dead bodies at a house, though I don't think it was an actual episode clip and more of a promo. Kept me interested enough.

They showed an 8 minute preview in the middle of there Screamathon yesterday.

      Yeah...no.

The killer looks nothing like Ghostface. Closer to Michael Myers than anything.

In that case, they might not have the rights to it. I believe Dimension owns the rights to use the Ghostface mask for films, or whatever production company it was that bought them back in the mid-90s.

Too bad it's not the original writers and such. Hopefully Kevin Williamson and Wes Craven have some kind of input for this.

Yeah I think it was Dimension.

I don't know, I guess it was only one scene but I just didn't get the Scream vibe.

Here is what they showed yesterday:

Yea you are right it doesn't really look like the original but but it does remind me of it in the video that you posted. I'm guessing like blzer said they can't use the real mask design because Dimension holds the rights to it. And they could still be making movies in the franchise.

I saw this last night during Scream 4. I am interested. I enjoyed the Scream movies quite a bit so I'll check it out.

I may check it out but there is way too much on Tuesday nights. So I will probably DVR it and then watch it Wednesday. But I did enjoy the first 3 didn't really like 4.

Also I just quickly googled scream 5 because I thought there was 5 not 4. And I just saw an article said that the film franchise is dead. So I don't know why they don't have the real ghostface mask.

Scream 5 was all but coming after they made Scream 4 (and were probably going to end it at 5), but it didn't make anything in the box office because younger people didn't know the franchise and weren't going to jump in with a "4" in the title, and many other Scream fans only seem to like the first two (I'll admit that the fourth bothered me in many places as well, but it is canon and I still like it very much). Anyway, after not generating any revenue, they had to nip it in the bud.

Still don't know how rights are pawned off when it comes to the mask, but I'm sure it would have cost a pretty penny to obtain if they wanted it. Instead, I'm sure they will have a story reason for why it's not there as a fallback excuse.

Actually they just changed the mask just to differentiate it from the movies.

Again, that's what they'll say as a fallback excuse for not paying royalties for the mask. They are selling the entire premise of this show on the name alone. The mask, name of the town, and characters are all brand new because they aren't affording any of it. If they were given that mask for free, it would be stupid of them not to use it if they want to attract as many people as possible. However, as I said, so far the show is "in name only" until proven otherwise.

(though it does appear the first murder victim will be gutted and hung from a tree like Drew Barrymore's character, just based on that little teaser)

Just watched the pilot. I thought it was good and after it was over they showed a preview of the rest of the season. And the show looks good, just sucks that is on Tuesday nights. So much stuff on.

Watched the pilot and was pleasantly surprised. Some of the acting was a bit cheesy but they've always tried to play up the personalities of certain characters in the movies so I'll give it a pass.

Going to be interesting to see how they maintain the tension without dragging out the story for too long.

The Randy-esque character pokes fun at the show in one of the opening scenes. Thought that was pretty clever.

Yeah, the pilot will keep me watching. It might be a bit dramatic like Pretty Little Liars, but I hope the characters are interesting enough to tide me over. I'm hoping some of my "favorites" don't die too quickly or anything. According to that kid though, there will probably just be a lot of little storylines between murders that will make this much less of a slasher than it will be just a drama, with some horror things thrown in between (again, PLL).

Only thing that will irk me is if it is one killer throughout the entire series and it spans across multiple seasons. Like the films, if they are going to make this more than one season I don't know if I will be interested if we don't know who this season's killer is by the finale. Do a new killer next season, etc. That's of course just my opinion. PLL has lasted way too long to even seem interesting for people who watch that show (my sister does, and it's kind of just run its course without knowing who 'A' is).
