So the beginning of season three validates why I should appreciate season two? Such is the complicated nature of Mr. Robot.

Nah. Mr. Robot is not really for everyone. If you didn’t like the second season, I don’t see why you are going to enjoy the third.

So it must have been a freak of nature that I liked the first season?

NAH, the first season was better than the second.

I really enjoyed the first season, but when I started watching the second, I was done after three episodes. Just couldn't do it anymore. Not exactly sure why, I guess it was just boring to me.

But I do understand why people like it. It's a good show. Just wasn't for me after the first season.

Yeah, that's what I was saying. You still aren't going to like the third season. That's what you are asking.

The first season had the cool Fight Club twist, and was new and exciting. The second season explored the Fight Club twist more, but had a lot of set-up. Into the third season it still has a lot of what people call boring scenes of just two people talking.

All I'm saying is that I don't see people that dropped out of the show during season 2 as going to enjoy season 3 anymore. I think the second and third seasons do feel very different, and the plots are getting very deep and tangled, which leads to more long dialogues and monologues.

It's getting harder and harder to tell who is working for who, and even who we should be rooting for. I think it is brilliant, but I've yet to watch a show where things are so muddled that people who start to feel like they are done ever come back around.

So what I'm saying is that I thought the second season was smarter and better in every way, and the third season doubles down on that.

I mean, was I supposed to just blow smoke up your *** and tell you its exactly like the first season and you should like it?

After the opening, it felt like it was going to be so much fun. Then, man, it was like, everything is bad now. Everything is bad now, and it's about to get a lot worse.

Jay, I don't totally agree with your overall assessment but I might let Mr Robot go. I mean I haven't even finished the last three episodes of season two. I'm probably closer to where PVarck is although I watched a lot more of season two than he did.

I think sometimes we get caught trying to claim TV shows are objectively good or bad, when they really come down more to taste. We keep trying to consider shows essential, when they really aren't.

I thought Rubicon was a fantastic spy thriller, and a fascinating look at how domestic intelligence agents evaluate intel and are forced to make tough decisions on who is bad and good in the war on terror. But most people found it to be really slow, boring, and pointless. I don't think they were wrong.

There is nothing wrong with wanting more action and plot movement out of a show, but it's less important to me personally. Some TV shows are more like books, but with books we don't overanalyze a chapter and rate it. We understand that they serve the greater whole and just move on. But for TV, we expect a payoff each and every week.

And Mr. Robot has fallen into similar territory. It has gotten plot heavy and complicated. Many episodes have no payoff. Some of the best scenes and segments are purely artistic and for show. This annoys a certain percentage of viewers. I'd rather those viewers watch something they like than engage them in a debate why they should like it as it is.

                    Re: Mr Robot

Man, therese last two episodes was a serious catharsis dealing with the fallout of the warehouse attack. After an episode of every bad and sad thing, this last one's meditation on "deletion" was intense. Most importantly, it has woken our main characters, and set them on a path of action again.

Anybody else think that Trent's little brother was imaginary for some time? Still not positive he wasn't, but I don't think it will be explored anymore, regardless.

It looks like the final two episodes are going to have lot more going on and be a full on roller coaster ride.

Almost quit on this during season 2. Glad I didn't.

                          Arise!

Anyone stick around for the full ride. Last might”s series finale capped one of my favorite TV shows with one of the best finales ever. We got closure, a look back, and a final mind-bending twist that explains everything.

                          Goodbye, Friend.

I can't remember when I waved the white flag on this series. When it became too much like work to watch it I didn't.

                            That's just me though.

Yeah, we had this conversation about two years ago. Interesting that you still respond to posts about the show.

It was work. It had a deep and complicated story that operated on many levels, and avoided holding the viewers hands. For those that dug it, it’s a masterpiece.

Rolling Stone has a good breakdown of the finale and what it all means if you don’t want to do the work.

Goodbye, 'Mr. Robot': Alan Sepinwall weighs in on the series finale and why ending the show by scaling things down was a smart move.
