Re: ESPN and Collin Cowherd parting ways
They have to cut costs. It is becoming a bigger problem, but now that other channels are in the market for sports, costs are going up. People are also dropping packages with ESPN in them. You are going to continue to see them cut costs as TV deals continue to go up.
1 article I saw said its about $14 per month that everyone pays if you have a package with ESPN channels, ~$6 just for ESPN. The value is +$30 per month if it wasn't in a package and was a la carte.
This is why I'm not hoping for everything to become a la carte as Disney would require you to get all their channels in 1 package even if you just wanted one of them. It would then probably increase the total costs.Comment

Re: ESPN and Collin Cowherd parting ways
I think for sports networks like ESPN we're going to see a winnowing of personnel who can't be used in multiple ways so guys who are basically glorified opinion makers better start looking at expanding their horizons or else they're going to be let go unless they're highly profitable. Mike Wilbon is a guy who can be used in multiple ways what with doing some NBA studio work and such but at the same time he's also one of those talking heads who can bring in good ratings with Kornheiser on PTI.
I can see ESPN and such focusing more on things like 30 for 30 and prestige programming rather than having to put up with blowhards like Cowherd. The daytime programming will probably be dropped down to a skeletal crew of competent but not flashy people doing the sports headlines etc etc.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: ESPN and Collin Cowherd parting ways
Cowherd is a jerk anyway. He posed an "I don't care" attitude about Jenner receiving the Arthur Ashe Award, which is not a debate item in this forum, but it's the way he presented his "I don't care". Here's his message to people that have a problem with it: Once again this has absolutely nothing to do with the award.
"I'm 6'2", a buck 84, sexy wife, healthy kids, never been happier-that's a you problem."
Well, he doesn't have self-esteem problems.Comment
