    Need help buying a laptop

I need to buy a laptop and my budget is only about $400 tops. So I need something that's the best value for the money. I have had two Toshiba's and both of them crapped out on me after 2 years. So Toshiba is off the table.

As far as brands go, I'm not really sure which are the best. I've been looking at HP's Acers, Lenovo's and Asus. And I really don't have a clue how good any of those brands are. Oh, and I'm not interested in a Chromebook. I want Windows 10.

If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it.

My Asus laptop has been a beast for me for several years, can't praise it enough. Other than that my knowledge is pretty limited.

I have my eye on one of the Transformer lines for a smaller and more portable option. My current one is the gaming rig and swear it weighs a ton.

I've seen this laptop suggested a lot. It's a Lenovo, which I know are reliable. You might want to remove the bloatware (delete the unnecessary software) and replace the 4 GB of RAM (if you don't understand this, it's not big a deal, honestly).

        http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834319445

It comes with Windows 8.1, which is upgradeable to Windows 10.

I bought an Asus about 5-6 years ago and, up until about a week or two ago, it worked perfectly fine. The "A" key just stopped working which really screwed me because almost all of my passwords have an "a" in them. LOL

I knew it was getting old and close to crapping out on me so I got a new one. Asus with a SSD. Man, that thing is nearly silent. Granted, that's generally a pricier machine but, in my experience, Asus is a good brand. Lenovos are good, too. Those would be my top two PC brands.

I don't think you can go wrong with an Asus or Lenovo. Asus has been fantastic for me in all levels, laptops, monitors and desktops have had very minimal issues. Not sure how customer service is since I never had to call them.

Lenovo has lost some of the quality from the Thinkpads. The durability is not there like it was when IBM made them. For the $ mentioned here, you won't be getting a business class machine most likely anyways though.

Acer does make great priced budget laptops.
              I like Asus.

You will most likely have to sacrifice on the build and casing quality, so if you are rough and want it to last, think about a warranty.

Thanks guys. I ended up getting a Lenovo G50. AMD A8, 6GB RAM, and 500GB HDD.

I can't support Lenovo and their shady business practices that they have been called on multiple times. I'm laptop searching now. I had my eye on this one - ASUS F555LA-AB31 15.6-inch Full-HD Laptop (Core i3, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD) with Windows 10 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B011KFQASE..._nSF3vbW556JDW

I didn't know anything about people complaining of shady business practices. But I had an issue with my touchpad setting not working after I updated to windows 10. But found a driver update on lenovo's site that fixed it.

That Asus does look nice though. Wish I had the full HD.

The one that I just got is essentially the same thing with an i7, 8 GB RAM, and a SSD. I'm loving it so far. One thing that I've seen people complain about is that the screen isn't a glossy one and doesn't have the best viewing angles. I don't mind it but it is a common enough complaint that I wanted to mention it.

Oh...it's not touch-screen either, if that matters to you. Or at least mine isn't. I may have missed it on that page though...

I think that would be a great machine for the price.
