Also, Sansa is playing the game. The Vale didn't come in last second to save the day. They attacked when Jon's army was reduced to nothing. So if say The Vale decided to occupy Winterfell for a bit, The Stark's can't do a thing about it. And to that point, Sansa didn't appear too thrilled to see that Jon survived. In fact she seems upset when she saw him. Combine that with little finger planting seeds of doubt in her mind about "Her Brother and His Army", I think Sansa is making a play to ice Jon out of Winterfell. Hell she was already done with Rikkon, the actual Lord of Winterfell. Sansa, that girl up to something. I mean she is a Bolton at the end of the day.

Oh and so much for the Karstarks and Umbers being double agents. I told you guys who believed that theory that there was absolutely no way they would give up Rikkon if they were still behind the Starks. Made no sense.
Everything you said here makes sense and is very smart. I need to go back and rewatch the episode and focus on Sansa. I don't want it to be true but sounds like you might be right on

When they were reunited it seemed like she was genuinely happy, do you think that changed when she felt Jon couldnt protect her?

Kept saying this out loud at the TV over and over.

On another note, does anyone think Sansa has a little Ramsay in her? The ominous line at the end when he says I'm a part of you now at first made me think they were using it to foreshadow something mentioned on here about her character turning and stabbing Jon in the back but after thinking about it I think it might have been used more literally.

My personal opinion is its a foregone conclusion she's pregnant.

I'm still unsure if she is trying to backstab Jon or not but I'm definitely thinking about it. Guess I'm just not certain what a payoff would be for a Sansa heel turn

Yes, I think Ramsey will live on through her one way or another. Could be Little Ramsey baking in the oven or it could be time for a Sansa heel turn.... could be both.

Then Ramsay would have just had his army drop the arrows, which would have lead to the same result.

                    On a side note...

HBO released a 10-minute featurette on how they shot that battle. Quite impressive seeing it in full motion, and a lot of it was real, and shot amazingly well.

Gawdamn that was beautiful, bittersweet & awesome. The Starks just made their own version of "The Reynes of Castamere."

That cinematography though! Jon all alone, Boltons charging at him, everything in slow motion, the sound slightly muted.
Then you got him being buried under all those bodies, willing himself to be reborn by climbing out of it. He may not have wanted Melisandre to bring him back, but he sure did find the will to live.

Not so much about Jon not being able to protect her, but Jon not taking her council seriously. After that reunion scene she and Jon were at each other's throats in every scene they shared. When she would give advice, Jon would instantly dismiss her. She didn't like that and she had experienced this before, not having any say over her own situation. She's not with that noise anymore.

My theory is that she and the vale watched, as Jon's army was wrecked and Ramsey's army was weakened. Preferring Jon be killed in this battle. Then she swooped in with intention to be the sole Stark at Winterfell. Jon survived. Don't think that was part of her plan.

I think her meeting with Lady Mormont was a bit inspirational. Everyone above her was killed leaving the crown to her. Sansa made moves with little finger to get a similar outcome. But Jon always comes back.

I don't think Sansa is looking at it like that at all. She is a Stark, Jon isn't her claim is/will always be greater that his. He isn't the type to kill her so as long as she doesn't die winterfell is hers. I think she used him to achieve that goal, and it will be interesting to see what their dynamic is now that she has that. There are three great northern houses that have been utterly destroyed in Karstark, Umber and Bolton. She could easily with the support of the remaining house give one of them to Jon, one to Tormand and one to Davos or some ****ing knight from the Vale that Littlefinger wants to promote.....

Everyone in the North knows that the fight that matters is now against the Night King and the white walkers. Sansa will still need Jon to rally and convince the other Northern Houses that they need prepare for that fight now squable about things like they are in the south.

Seems like Dany is FINALLY moving west. Can't wait for her to make landfall. You would think the show would need to devote another 5-10 minutes to Dorne at some point this season because that story is just......and if not then the budget they wasted could've been used to on CGI for Ghost in episode 9.

Not saying she's about to shank Jon in his sleep. But she's not about to legitimize his name anytime soon.

For the first time since I started watching this show, I can't find anything to by cynical about. That was hands down the best episode of this show so far, it finally lived up to the hype and standing other people place upon it. I can't believe GoT pulled off an deus ex machina like that and I'm not mad about it. Excellently placed.

And the final scene...yes. So validating.
