Wayne Rogers, "Trapper John" from M*A*S*H passes away at 82

    Complications from pneumonia.

There aren't many of the original M*A*S*H cast left. The episodes with Trapper had more humor, but are still great.

I loved his character on MASH.

He was one of my favorites on the show. He was extremely funny!

He certainly was an asset to the show, but I never understood why he objected so much to Alda being the top banana. Either he was tired of acting or his ego got the better of him.

He was well replaced by Mike Farrell's B.J. Hunnicutt, who was a monogamous version of Trapper John, although distinct in other ways.

        RIP Wayne.

Never felt the show had the same pizzazz after he and Henry left the show. Enjoyed Rogers political commentary in his later years as well. Seemed like a sensible man.

I just recovered from a severe pneumonia myself and believe you me, they are no joke. Especially when you get up there in age. It's astonishing how many celebrities have perished due to pneumonia. Either too old to fight it off, or didn't seek the proper attention like Jim Henson.

M*A*S*H was a great show. I have been watching it since I was a kid in the early 80s. The show took a serious nosedive after Rogers left the cast though.

            RIP Trapper.

              A serious nosedive? Really?

An iconic show jumped the shark after three of it's eleven years? Nah.

There's 2 kinds of people in this world: those who loved MASH with the old cast and those who loved MASH with the new cast. But this is a tribute thread.

There are many that loved the entire series, and a conversation about his relative impact on MASH is hardly "off thread". You made that comparison yourself. I know your not suggesting that a "tribute thread" is only inbounds if all the comments are glowing, even to the point of embellishment.

I'm just suggesting any tribute thread is not grounds for a debate. Let the writer make his comment/eulogy and move on. That's all I'm suggesting.
