I remember playing hours and hours of Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX. I came across it at a store a few years ago and played the heck out of it again. Never followed extreme sports outside of the X Games, but I try to catch it every year to get my fix.

It's being ruled a suicide right now, so you have to assume CTE played a role.

I saw this on facebook last night and was surprised. Is it just me or have we lost a lot of famous people this year already? I mean we are only a little over a month into the year and already like 5 famous people have past. Dave Mirra and Matt holfman where like the 2 best BMX riders ever. I think it was only like 2 years ago that Dave was still in the Xgames. I heard he has a kid and wife he left behind and they think he took his own life. Sad to hear about this.

I'll admit I only really knew him from the Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX games (I never really watched X Games while he was doing his thing), but either way RIP Dave.

Just three days before he passed away, he went to visit with his idol, Dennis McCoy and his biggest rival, Mat Hoffman. Apparently, the three had remained close after retiring:

I couldn't think of a single bad thing about Dave Mirra. Everyone seemed to have loved him that knew or came in contact with him. What a tragedy and still so young. RIP Dave.

I wasn't a fan of BMX but I just wanted to say that I hate seeing suicide happen. It's an epidemic and we need to find ways to combat it better. Help is out there and we should be making that known better. It's a terrible thought thinking that life isn't worth living anymore. I've been there and was lucky enough to have a good support system that helped me. I just want to see others in that situation be able to get the help they need.
