Re: The People v. O.J. Simpson

All this stuff just gets crazier and crazier. And like I said before, the craziest part is that nobody even wrote this stuff, it actually happened!

And that final scene...did people actually know that about him?

Side note...thanks to that home renovation scene, that songs stuck in my head:

Re: The People v. O.J. Simpson

It just shows how inept Clark and Darden were and how great of a team OJ had behind him. He had the best money can buy and Cochran and Scheck destroyed the LA PD's evidence gathering and planted doubt in those jurors.

That's all they had to do. Plant just a tiny seed of doubt. Which was not hard to do with how badly the LA PD botched the crime scene, how badly they treat African Americans and how Clark spent what seemed like an eternity talking about domestic violence. All she had to do was focus very hard on the blood trail. But even so.....the police were not trusted which in of itself was a huge headwind. They botched the jury selection, it was simply amateur hour.

However with all that being said the thing that always stuck with me watching this unfold was the sheer amount of stupidity of people around me actually truly thinking that OJ did not murder Nicole Brown and Ronald Goldman. That is a pure dysfunction of common sense and intelligence. I was furious at peoples behavior after the verdict. That was an indictment of the crumbling of society as a whole.

OK...if it was not OJ....who was it then...tell me. The very few people I spoke with that felt 100% he was framed never even had a coherent answer for that. They just felt everything was planted and staged.

Yeah OK.....go build a bunker and store supplies and guns then. Your insane if you think this was an elaborate set up and conspiracy.

Do I think the defense proved some shenanigans with the blood evidence? Unfortunately for the victims families I did. The bloody sock was the knock out punch for the defense. Then the glove.....oh my god. We know he wore it...despite it not fitting well. Kato heard banging and that was probably OJ smacking his blood soaked hands trying to remove the small gloves.

The blood at the scene, the hair, the blood in/on the Bronco...it was pretty damning. If I am on a Jury I plead with the others to use common sense despite some of the BS the LA PD may have done. It was obvious to me this man committed a double homicide. It was a vicious killing, no robbery. Come on people. The jury was perfect for the defense.

OJ's defense did a brilliant job and won the case. It happened. It was a fascinating case and I was glued to it everyday. I lived that case with many here.

Exactly, that's something else I wonder too. If not him, who else was ever a suspect in all this? Did they even have any sort of conclusion on it or were just like "It wasn't him, the end", and then not go further into finding out who did it or attempted to frame him or anything like that if he's not guilty.

I really enjoy this show. Since I was born in 93 I didn't understand the craziness involving this case. Just from what I seen in these episodes, OJ is so guilty.

100% guilty. Keep watching. Incredible law lesson's of what not to do when trying a high profile celebrity murder case as a prosecutor.

Such a shame for the families and victims. They never got the justice they deserved. The civil suit they won was empty. They were never ever going to collect a cent. OJ slammed his money into insurance and annuities and back then you could not look back. That case set a huge precedent for a 3 year look back so you can't hide assets behind the impenetrable insurance protection it gives to litigation involving your personal assets.

Serious question, do you actually know why they were celebrating after the verdict?

Yeah....it was a moral victory vs the LA PD which has had up to that point a well documented history of racial profiling, excessive force, wrongly convicting African Americans for crimes etc. And let me be clear. The system is not perfect, but it is pretty proven they get it right most of the time. No such thing a perfect legal system, but we have the very best in the world.

I get it. I don't like when you have dirty cops and racists either in our system. But to cheer a not guilty verdict of a pretty obvious guilty person getting away with a double homicide is not the right case to make a political FU statement to the system. Not only that. OJ was not the African American to rally around. He was not an inner city guy. He lived in Brentwood and surrounded himself with those type of people. Not the inner city people who were cheering and making absolute fools of themselves.

It was not right and in bad taste. Downright appalling.

I don't believe for a minute 70-80% of the people cheering thought he was not guilty.

So yeah I know why they were cheering. Again.....superbly bad form and embarrassing.

Courtney Vance should get an Emmy for his role as Cochran.

I was cracking up at that last scene between he and Darden when they were at the house.

Loving the show. I spent a lot of time watching the trial as a teenager because I was laid up with surgeries on both my feet that year and I watched the trial every day. The show has been really good and not too much Hollywood-izing other than the whole collapse thing in the past episode. But that sure was dramatic!

yeah what was the deal with that? Did the dude actually fall out in the middle of the presentation, or was that just added to the part for drama? I was like 13 at the time, followed it quite a bit, never remember hearing about a guy fainting, I assume that would have been a big media moment.

in regards to people celebrating, lets not forget 2 things, there was video of multiple LAPD officers viciously beating Rodney King, and they were found not guilty, then this happens. Then, the media, had a huge role in this, and that was shaping peoples opinions, on this day they want people to think this, then tomorrow that, there was race baiting, etc it was just a mess, so people celebrating, werent cheering someones death, but the take down of a police force that they hated. They were cheering that the LAPD took an L.

Hindsight is 20/20 of course, and there is no twitter, etc. It was cnn and news channels, and people only got what they wanted to show you, and people were manipulated by hate from RK, and the defenses race stance, etc. I cant blame people for celebrating, during that time, to me at least, it didnt seem ludicrous, but now looking back it does obviously.

Ill be honest, and I cant tell you why this is the case, but I was pulling for him to be found not guilty. I knew a lot about the case, watched all the news coverage, thought in the back of my head he was probably guilty, though, I was never 100% positive of it, and thought he should be found guiltybased on the evidence, didnt disagree with people who would say "Hes Guilty 100% no doubt" but, me, alone in a room, was pulling for him to be found not guilty, and was cheering in my head when the verdict was read.

I looked it up and he did not pass out as it was depicted in the show, but he did go to the hospital that day. It was mentioned that Shapiro said "Bob, he doesn't look too good, he could wheeled out in a stretcher by the end of the day." or something along those lines.

Also, while we are discussing the show, it is important that race talk is against the TOS. And while I feel the discussions have been fluid and respectful so far, let's just keep that in mind.

Folks, I know we have had some moderator participation, and it seems like this conversation hasn't gone off the rails. But a while back the mod team decided we were not going to allow conversation on this show. It was well before release so obviously it was probably forgotten.

As such this thread is being closed down. Apologies for not getting to it earlier and for those of you that have enjoyed this discussion. But I'm going to shut it down.
