Honestly I was surprised when I saw the main scene in question, but it didn't really bother me that much. There's an article I just read about the comic con panel getting a little confrontational when the screenwriters were asked about it by the crowd.

I don't wanna say too much or post a link as its spoilers but I'm curious to see what others in here think after seeing the movie
I'm in the crowd that thinks that it's a catastrophically stupid narrative choice. IMO, it's done with the sole purpose of tuning people up. The writers involved in the project have been shown to be excellent storytellers in the past, that they would add this kind of hackneyed plot element is unfortunate.

It has nothing to do things being changed from the graphic novel, it's simply antithetical to the vary nature of these characters.

I read an article how it's not very nice to Batgirl, making her pine for Batman after a hookup or something....just not very good to a female character, especially with the Killing Joke aspect as well....

When I saw it I was slightly taken aback at first but I figured that it must have happened in the comics at some point or another (not in TKJ but in other Batman storylines). From what I've read it seems like that may not be the case?

Gotcha. Thanks for the insight there.

Also, good call on the spoiler.

I'm pretty sure it's Timm who created that narrative in that series, and of course he's the head honcho on this film too.

                Re: Batman: The Killing Joke

So yeah, it seems like a lot of reviews I have seen so far say its's at least a good movie overall except for "the scene."

Reading youtube comments and whatnot, lot of vitriol over that choice. Not quite as bad as people going insane over Flash's "blue lightning" (which is just silly, imo).

I dunno. I loved the book and I really liked the movie. That's just me though.
