    Re: Jason Bourne

Despite the lukewarm scores, I'm still interested in this film.
I loved all 3 Matt Damon JB movies so I'm sure I'll enjoy this as well.

I also wonder if one day someone will reboot the series and be 100% true to the source material.
I've read the novels and even though I loved them, I've also really enjoyed the films which are almost nothing like the books.

Doing this from my flip phone, so bear with me. Movie just ended... and it was DOPE! I don't use that word ever. Go see it, but make sure you have already seen 1-3. Legacy is unnecessary... for now, at least!

        Re: Jason Bourne

Okay, now that I'm home I can do a few more impressions. I know my initial reaction was off a high from coming right out of the theater, but maybe I'm just excited for Bourne again. It wasn't a masterpiece by any means, it was just a thrilling flick. I don't know where it ranks anywhere because story counts for a lot of it, and this wasn't the strongest there but it was serviceable enough to warrant the sequel (or at least, I went with it for the sake of a sequel happening). This might be where critics have most issue with this film, but they really have to get over it. The other two feuds may be: 1) nothing new was really brought to the franchise with this film being made; 2) it's not a necessary film to watch if you felt like Ultimatum was your closure.

Of the previous three Damon films, it's mostly like Ultimatum. I mean that in most all regards. Greengrass knocked it out of the park once again, and his style matched the tone perfectly. If there was a way to differentiate this movie from the previous ones, I'd say that "accessible" is now an adjective that can be thrown in there. All of the movies are U.S. hits, but they aren't the easiest films to follow either, specifically Supremacy. I think this one is just meant for all types of people. Fortunately, I think it still panders better to crowds who have seen the previous three films. Unlike other movie franchises that sort of reboot by the time the post-trilogy movies hit, this one simply continues but with some time between films (keep in mind Supremacy and Ultimatum both take place in 2004). Can you see it without seeing the others? Ehh... yeah. I wouldn't recommend it though.

We're not yet in the "superhero" realm of this franchise either, unlike that of the more recent Die Hard, Fast & Furious, and Mission Impossible movies. Any time you see something on screen that's a bit ridiculous, just remember that it can't be any more ridiculous than Matt Damon falling several floors down and shooting a guy mid-air in Identity. Or... [gulp]... Jeremy Renner motorcycle-grinding down a staircase. We're just about where we've always been. Sure, there are some "HE SHOULD BE DEAD!" moments, but we've seen far too many of those now that it's okay. Hits against him still seem to count for something.

I hate to call this a deterrent of any sort because they were greatly cast, but it took me a bit out of the movie when I was sitting there going: "That's Tommy Lee Jones! That's Vincent Cassel! That's the kid from Nightcrawler!" Yes, I understand that the other films had name actors (especially Julia Stiles), but when I didn't know them at the time then I only knew them as Conklin, Landy, Vosen, asset #1, etc. haha. This is no problem especially when they acted their parts completely fine, but it made me attach to their characters in ways that had little to do with the characters, unfortunately. No biggie, just my little thing. Some of the line delivery felt really wooden, but I think some of it was also ADR'ed, and kind of brought forth that issue in that vein. By the way, this is the first movie I've seen Alicia Vikander in. She's going to play Lara Croft?? Hell yes!!

There will be quirks about some of the writing in the film, specifically motivations. I'm willing to live with some of them, discuss them further, and/or call it a negative in what was otherwise a fun summer movie. I'm personally just glad that Bourne is back. I above all else love trilogies, but when they broke it with The Bourne Legacy (albeit somewhat of a spin-off), the universe opened itself back up as if to say: "Let's do another!" I personally don't feel like it was phoned in, and I think hereon out it's going to be tough for the writers to scrape and claw at what part of this CIA black-ops stuff they should try and dig into next if they plan on more sequels/prequels/spin-offs, but for the time being given that it was Ultimatum-like in a few respects, it hasn't gotten old quite yet, even though Damon himself is getting up there haha.

I do have one other complaint about this film, and it's a big one... but it's saved for spoiler conversation only. It's something that brings it down compared to what the other three films were able to offer, and by all accounts if I were to rank it below the other three this would be the reason. In fact, thinking about it more it downright pissed me off. Even movies that I like are allowed to have things I hate. I feel like it was an easy thing to make right as well, but I guess they were fine with how they made their film. It's one of those things that would make me think an extended cut would help remedy much like BvS haha.

One last thing and I promise I'm out: as impressive as the production was filming in Las Vegas as they did, I prefer my Bourne to be overseas. Even when he was in New York in Ultimatum it wasn't quite as appealing. Oh, and small goof in the movie to me: they always list the location that they're jumping to in every scene, but forgot to do one when they introduced Washington D.C. I guess we're just all supposed to assume that we know where that is because of the Washington Monument lol, but it seemed weird that they left it out.

          Re: Jason Bourne

I'll do my part and give a quick review. It wasn't bad and it wasn't great. It had exciting parts and all the Cia chasing Bourne was good but it's all stuff we've seen in the past movies. The chase scene was garbage. The staple of Bourne movies.... Just uneventful.

I wasn't bored but this is the worst of all of them. The psychological stuff that Boune was going through is what I wanted more of but didn't happen. I hope next one is the last one and we get a team up with Damon and Renner.

              Re: Jason Bourne

Saw it yesterday with the wife. It was fun. Action was top notch as usual. But ****ing Greengrass and his shakie cam **** ALL the time was pissing me off. Dude I get the action scenes but do we have to have it in the slow scenes too?? Started getting a headache by the end. Anyways I recommend it. Not my favorite but I thought it was well done and well acted.

Haha I love the shaky cam (for these movies specifically... and United 93 of course), but that just may be me.

Just came across this, and thought it was fantastic. Smiling ear-to-ear.
