I just read a 100 page article about Ali's life and most people have no idea some of the reasons why.
Did you know he scored a 78 on the IQ test the Military gave him?
78 is border line mentally ********.
He also knew by scoring this low his only option would be to be on the front lines as an infantryman, which would probably mean he would be killed.
Some say he scored low on purpose hoping the military would not take him, he has denied this many times.
To determine whether or not Ali purposely scored low on his test is impossible to determine, but in regards to his conscientious objector status has Ali don't anything since the Supreme Court decision (Clay v. United States, 1971) went his way that makes one wonder about the sincerity of his beliefs?

So yeah, I really do know why he refused induction into the armed services.

EDIT: A little off topic but I wonder how many young men were trying to ace that test?

I have no idea what you are trying to say in that first paragraph, I have read it 5 times now and it just confuses me. Are you saying it may not been about him being Muslim?
Again sorry, I just am not sure what you are saying.

My step dad and Uncles all took the test around the same time. They all tried to score as high as they could so they could get jobs not on the front line. Not that a good score guaranteed you would stay out of heavy combat, but it helped.

After reading the article about Ali I believe it was more about being scared of combat than him being Muslim. He was also way too many people's meal ticket to die in a war.

This seems like the kind of conversation that could get me in trouble, or more appropriately a conversation I could get myself in trouble in.

I appreciate that there are multiple ways to view the same situations in life, and I respect all point of views. Ali is definitely somewhat polarizing, for sure.

In my opinion, he was an incredibly courageous man. That's just me though.

You're absolutely entitled to believe this, but that doesn't make it fact.

Ali was pretty clear about how why he refused induction, he handled it appropriately and accepted his punishment like a man.

All I know is what the man said, and what he stood for, and that's good enough for me.

And you are entitled to believe this, but that doesn't make it a fact either.
I honesty have no idea what the truth is either.
I do believe that without a doubt that if it was him not wanting to serve because he didn't want to die he would never say that.
it probably really was he didn't feel the need to fight for a countries cause that he didn't believe in.
I have no idea, the article I read was great tho.

You're the one that's that's trying to figure out what's inside Ali's head (leaning negatively, may I add). My "muddled" paragraph asks the question, "After he was exonerated by the top court in 1971 did his life after that ruling reaffirm the same religions beliefs that he purported to have when filing for conscientious objector status"? In other words after he got a pass from the government, did he give up Islam, lead a philandering lifestyle, join a heathen cult, etc. etc.

You're reasoning is that nobody knows his motives, and quite possibly he was just trying to preserve his life, but you're just offering conjecture.

Actually in 1974 he did convert to another from of Islam.
I am going to stop here, there is no need to keep this up. Like it was mentioned earlier this will just lead to something I don't want to get into.
