Don't t me wrong I still love this show, but last night's episode was the worst one by far.
This show kept me on the edge of my seat the first 5 episodes but last night it was just boring.
Starting to really think he thinks he is going away for life.
The whole tattoo thing makes me think he is trying to look "harder" for prison once he gets there.
Who the hell "tattoo ups" and shaves their head when they are getting ready to so on trial?

I agree.
Although, when taking a step back for a broader view, it makes sense.

This is a kid that never did anything bad (that we know of).
In one night, he drank, did drugs, stabbed a girl in the hand and had intercourse with a virtual stranger - all while having a stolen car.
He's the most easily manipulated organism I've ever seen. When faced with any peer pressure he folds like a lawnchair.
And I think that's what's going on while in prison.
Freddy is bored. He said himself he had an extra murder tact on to his sentence just to be closer to his wife and kid.
I think he's taken a liking to Naz to see how far he can take an innocent, doe-eyed geek and turn them into a prison lifer.
In a very short time, he got him to shave his head, get tats and smoke PCP (I'm guessing that's what it was. My drug knowledge only extends as far as what movies and TV have taught me).

In summary, Naz is a moron with the spine of a bowl of jello.
Regardless if he's found innocent or not, I think his future is going to be screwed no matter what.

You didn't see a severe behavioral change from Naz before the sixth episode? What about when he challenges the guy who wants to watch a certain TV channel? Didn't he shave his head in episode 5? His bad guy trajectory started before #6.

Yeah yeah..I know...but episode 6 was just...not up to snuff with the rest of the series thus far. Too much too fast. Again though....it's only 8 parts.

Freddy is playing him like a drum just like the dude who sprayed the baby oil napalm on him brought him in rather quickly.

He's a valuable asset to Freddy. Freddy is going to make sure he stays in prison regardless of what the jury decides - all the while making Naz thank him for everything.

Thing is Freddy isn't forcing him to do crack and get tats. That shows a serious lack of good judgement but things like swallowing the balloons he really had very little choice there. Bottom line Naz doesn't know it or maybe he does....he had very little free will in the grand scheme he's at the mercy of Freddy.

Yes, in prison it is.
It scalds your skin.
The baby oil attaches the hot water to your skin and causes really bad burns.
I actually saw this on Lock Up once.
Except on Lock Up one guy threw the cut of hot water and baby oil on another guys face.
The guys faced looked deformed the next day when they showed him.

I swear man, if some of those people in prison applied their intellect in engineering skills in society, well, they probably would not be in prison. There are some damned genius inventions behind those walls.

I've lost some of the fire for this show. Really glad it's one season and only 8 epsidoes.

If it went any longer, it would toe the line of falling into the True Detective realm.

I think the show isn't anything like what I enjoyed or experienced the first two episodes. I guess I liked the idea of the scared geek navigating a scary world.

But he's completely different and maybe I don't like how fast it's been happening.

Still a good show. But it went from "you absolutely need to watch this new show" to "It's cool. I'm watching it as well."

I think the show isn't anything like what I enjoyed or experienced the first two episodes. I guess I liked the idea of the scared geek navigating a scary world.

But he's completely different and maybe I don't like how fast it's been happening.

Still a good show. But it went from "you absolutely need to watch this new show" to "It's cool. I'm watching it as well."

So do we know exactly how long he has been in prison?
I read on another board that 3 months has passed since he was arrested.
If so I could totally see prison changing you in just 3 months.
I can tell you one of my very best friends when to the state pen here in Indiana and he joined a gang when he was in prison.
They tatted him all up too. He said if he didn't join the gang he would have been beaten up constantly. He swears he had to choice but to join a gang.
That would change you very quickly as a person.

Look and before and after pictures of him. It looks like he has bulked up so it must be months that have gone by.

Couldn't agree more. I was really hoping the who done it, clues pointing in all directions, suspense of the first episode was the direction they were going to go even though it would feel "written" and not really realistic. I was afraid they were going to turn it into a pseudo docudrama about the system and how it processes and can twist people into things they may or may not be and that seems like the direction they are going to continue taking it.

I'm sure enough time has passed to make his change realistic.

The issue is do we know how much time has passed?

There's an issue with the writing and pacing if people have to ask, "how long has he been in there?"

Can't one character say something about it? Why can't Stone say, "I just want to get the kid out. He's been in there for months."

Or why couldn't the first guy needing a cell phone step up to him and say, "You stupid bitch. Three months in this place and you still ain't learned a thing?"

Instead you get Omar (sorry he's always Omar) saying, "I'll make you a legit prisoner in no time."

Well, damn, that's confusing. Why would someone say that 3 months later? Can Naz be that dumb as to how things work in the system to not understand that people make money off renting out burners? What exactly has he been doing then?

But I'm not trying to poke holes in the story. Not the intent of my post. I'm only a bit underwhelmed with the direction of the show and expressing it. I still like it and I don't say it to change anyone's mind on it.

I agree CMH. I still enjoy the show and with only 2 episodes left, I'm down to the end.
But I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed with eps 5 and 6.

I hope the last 2 episodes get back to the case. Especially Stone. I really liked the direction they were taking him in. He knew something wasn't right about Naz and this type of crime.

Maybe it's just poor writing. Perhaps the writers wanted the viewers to have some doubt as to whether Naz did it or not.
And they need the mystery so viewers wouldn't stray from the show.

But IMO, I liked (sort of) knowing that Naz was innocent. This show was more than a murder mystery to me. I was fully invested in all the various characters, their motivations, and the overall commentary on today's justice system and racial profiling.

Thought last nights episode was amazing after the last couple were not up to par.
I have no idea if he did it or not. lol
I have no idea what is going to happen in the last episode next week.
By the way I noticed next week's episode is an hour and 45 minutes.
There are so many ways this could go, again loved last nights episode!
