But I think it's very safe to say Naz wasn't the killer. You had a very high ranking prosecuting attorney, a decorated, intelligent, competent detective, a lawyer who can smell a criminal without looking at him, and a lifer at Rikers who has a dead-on radar for criminals as well.
All of the above saw Naz and knew he wasn't guilty. It's what made Stone want to represent him. Like Freddy, for once in his life, he wanted to protect something that was pure and perhaps to clean their conscience.

Really looking forward to Season 2 with a whole new cast and story.
Hard to believe they could top this story and acting. All of the actors did a phenomenal job.
I just hope they don't rush it like True Detective S2.
    Very well said!

His closing arguments man, he was awesome.

        The Night Of (HBO)

Watched the 1st 5 episodes over the holiday weekend. Show has managed to eclipse all internet hype and expectations fiends built. Part of me wishes I had another free day to finish tomorrow while the other is doesn't want things to end after final 3 episodes.

Tried not to read anything anyone posted so I could simply say..... I just watched Ep. 1 FINALLY, and wow... I will definitely finish this this week/weekend. Incredible opener.

This is a good follow up to Stranger Things, which the wife and I finished over the weekend.

One thing I was thinking of, they made a point of showing how the 4th steak knife was missing. Also the wounds were consistent with a kitchen knife instead of a combat knife. Unless of course that analysis was just lies and smoke and mirrors to help the prosecution. Just seems a little odd that the killer goes there with the intent to kill and used a kitchen knife. Seems like you'd bring your own to a party like that.

They did that to tie Duane to the crime.
In each of his other crimes he attacked the victim with a knife he found in their house.
I know it has been said before but many criminals are very stupid, things they do don't make sense.

Yeah, I know the defense did that to tie Duane to the crime, but it looks like the actual killer did that very thing. Just seems odd that the real killer would have used a steak knife because that murder seemed premeditated so why not make sure you have the proper tools on you to do the job.

I guess like you said criminals are pretty stupid, but who goes to murder someone without the murder weapon? Taking a pretty big chance there.

Yeah that is odd. I also remember during the season they found another body while Naz was in jail. Is that tied to the EX as well?

Well my theory is the killer killed her with one of her own knives to make it look like even more that Naz did it.
I think the financial advisor did it and knew Naz was there and using a knife that was already on scene would totally tie it to Naz.
I think he was watching her house waiting for the perfect time to kill her.
                    This was the perfect time.

I don't think he knew Naz was there. I think he knew the back door didn't lock and rolled in there in the middle of the night to commit the murder with no knowledge that Naz was there. He wouldn't have had any clue that Naz was passed out. And he didn't bring a murder weapon with him, no way he goes in there with the intent of pinning it on Naz. What if Naz was some major bad a$$ and woke up and choked him out.

Oh I think he total knew Naz was there.
From his coat, keys, breather being right on her bed.
He could have seen something was going on by the state of her bedroom.
Like I said in my theory (the theory of the financial advisor killer her) I think he was waiting for the perfect time to off her.
Or he paid Duane to wait for the perfect time to kill her.
Either way I really think they knew Naz was there and it would all fall on him.

                          Re: The Night Of (HBO)

Was away and couldn't watch the final two episodes till Sunday.

Really liked how they wrapped this up. The final two episodes provided the kick the first two did.

I like the show for its social commentary and also for the character development (destruction?) of its protagonist.

I loved that the mini series avoided falling into typical television tropes by creating red herrings, popping up with an inexplicable murder and suspect, or providing a positive ending to wrap things up in a bow.

If the lawyer ended up with Naz, I would have barfed.

I did enjoy the cat staying with Stone. That was a nice touch.

                            Amazing series. Wow.

As far as the ending goes, it seemed pretty plainly obvious that Naz didn't do it (but his experience has clearly changed him) and that the financial advisor did. I didn't get any impression of open-endedness in the way they wrapped things up.

I hadn't heard much about this going in, but decided to give it a go after finishing Luke Cage. Simply put, I absolutely loved it. It felt so real, and seeing Naz's transformation throughout the process was fascinating to watch. It really made me think after the final credits rolled. Great stuff, I'd love to see more quality miniseries like this.
