    Don't Breathe

As per Blzer's suggestion, I have put the trailer in spoilers as it apparently reveals major plot points that would be better off not known going into it

    Spoiler

We discussed this movie a little bit in the "Lights Out" thread. Early reviews are VERY positive.

I hope to check it out early next week

    Re: Don't Breathe

From someone who has seen the movie, I recommend people don't see the trailer if you can help it. It reveals two bigger plot points (though definitely not the biggest ones, but I still fail to see why they put these things in trailers when they will do just fine without them), and starts to produce some of the slow tension that you want to wait for when you see it in theater.

Anyway, I saw it last night and posted my impressions in the movie thread. Here they are:

    - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

This movie was intense! Very fitting title. Solid production, to boot. Fede Alvarez made very wise directorial decisions, especially regarding the sound stage and the massive use of low light. Just like the blind man, what you don't see is almost as important in this as what you do see, and you hear literally almost every sound. Lots of pleasant tracking shots early in the film as well.

To me, it was kind of like The Strangers meets Panic Room meets 10 Cloverfield Lane. I wouldn't qualify it as "scary," but there is plenty of tension throughout. The audience was totally sold on the concept and knew to respect what they were giving us. Not too much talking to the screen, and also not many relieving moments to let us let go and laugh it off either. There are jumpy moments, and if you want to call them jump scares go ahead. The only unnecessary one was the first one, but the rest were excellent. (EDIT: There was a second one that I wasn't in love with either actually, but honestly I couldn't think of executing it any better way)

It nearly overstayed its welcome, but the short run time kept every moment effective enough. I have only one or two questions leaving it that I'm sure I'll be able to find the answer to if I talk to the right people online, but otherwise I thought it was a terrific concept that was nailed spot-on. I'm glad the horror genre can give us this kind of film time to time, even though I technically probably file this under the thriller camp (but with horror elements).

I often don't rate films, but I want to give it about an 8/10. Maybe if I get more precise, I'd go 8.3/10 or so. There was a lot to appreciate about this film's production.

I know a couple people who have seen it and the both said "very intense." Seem to go along Blzer as more "intense thriller" than "scary horror."

Correct. This is not a scary movie in my opinion at all. I wouldn't even want to call it a horror film. Just a gnarly thriller.

Gnarly is my favorite word, ever.

                What'd you think?

So far I have only seen one truly "bad" review for it and it was Angry Joe who says it is completely awful.

The wife and I saw this last night. We really enjoyed it. Very interesting concept and very believable which makes the movies premise so intense.

Good old fashioned thriller. Didn't rely on gore or uber violence to make it scary.
Stephen Lang is awesome and I'd be scared of him too even if he was blind. Dude was jacked-up!

Can't wait to see this. Lang does looked jacked up, I'm thinking he's putting in his bid to be Cable in the next Deadpool
