Gene Wilder passes away at age 83

The year of iconic celebrity deaths continue as the great comedic actor Gene Wilder passes away of complications from Alzheimers. I had no idea he was suffering from that but I guess that explains why he pretty much disappeared from the limelight the last decade or so. He's one of my absolute favorite comedic actors and his team up with Richard Pryor was the stuff of legend.

Sad part, I actually thought he did die a long time ago cause I hadn't heard anything about him in so long. Saw him trending on twitter and thought today was an anniversary or something, but then actually finding out he just died today, was sadder to hear.

Man, 2016 continues to be horrible. Willy Wonka obviously had a big impact on me, but movies like Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, and Stir Crazy are still some of my favorite comedies. Reading a lot of the stories about him and Gilda Radner, he was an amazing man. RIP.

I don't think comedic actor covers it for him. I think intelligent comedic actor only starts to encapsulate what Gene Wilder was about. To truly appreciate him you have to watch some of his interviews as well. For me The Frisco Kid started it, but his high points were Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein, of course. You had to know that he had a great deal to do with both of those movies, which came out in the same year no less, being 2 of the top 5 grossing movies of 1974. He brought such a unique presence to his roles and his timing was impeccable.

There was no better comedy duo than Wilder and Pryor . Not Martin and Lewis . Not Abbott and Costello . Not Laurel and Hardy . I just wish Wilder and Pryor could have worked together more . RIP Mr Wilder .

Man this year has just sucked.

Another great gone. The amount of sadness this year has just been staggering.

I am so watching Blazing Saddles tonight in Memoriam.

So bummed, I loved Gene. I can't count the times I saw See No Evil Hear No Evil as a kid. My mom didn't care about the language because she loved that movie so much.

A comic genius from the old generation...they don't make 'em like that anymore. Have watched many of his works and loved each and every one of them.

                      RIP.

Same here and throw in Silver Streak and Start The Revolution Without Me. I'm 39 and I vividly remember my parents having people over in the early 80's to watch Young Frankenstein when they bought a VHS player. It's my earliest movie memory. My childhood is full of memories with all of these movies.

Wilder graduated from Iowa as well.

Apparently, Pryor was supposed to do Blazing Saddles, but his drug habits were making him too unreliable, so they settled on Little. I actually thought Wilder and Marty Feldman had the chance of a major comedic team, but Feldman's health problems and sudden death kept that from ever having a chance.

Very sad to read this news yesterday; I did not know he had Alzheimer's.

One of the best comedic actors. Wilder would be the first to tell you he was not a comedian, but boy did he fit those roles perfectly.

The pairing with Mel Brooks was magical and obviously, his work with Richard Pryor was outstanding.

                              Rest in peace.
