    Arnold Palmer Dies At 87

A true sports icon. At a relatively young 35 he won his last major.

    RIP Arnie

If you really think about it in some respects Palmer was his generation's Tiger Woods in terms of opening the game up to the masses. When Palmer was at the height of his fame he had taken a sport that was pretty much confined to the rich upper class country club set and made it more accessible. His fame and great play got golf exposure on TV for the first time and made it be recognized as something more than a genteel rich man's game.

        Sad sports day.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

The way he married the game to TV, was voted the 60's best athlete by the AP, you could make a case he was as important to the game as any golfer ahead of him on the wins list.

I believe he was the richest paid athlete/ex-athlete in the world for several years in a row until Jordan overtook him.

An article came out this morning that his career golf earnings ($1.8 million) was 1/20th of what his business made last year ($40 million).
