Re: AT&T buys Time Warner for more than $80 billion
I don't see this one sticking. Comcast and Time Warner never completed and with AT&T already having their own cable and adding DirecTV awhile ago, it's hard to see regulators approving it, not without some reorganization of some sort. -
Re: AT&T buys Time Warner for more than $80 billion
I agree, if it goes through than AT&T is going to have to have a Mama Bell type division and divesting of the company. They won't be able to keep everything all under one roof but separate companies creatively financed and owned by a central holding/ownership is the most likely scenario other than the deal outright killed.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: AT&T buys Time Warner for more than $80 billion
I change my opinion a bit. I forgot that Time Warner CABLE was bought by Charter not too long ago. This is for what remains of Time Warner. Granted, I still think they're going to run into some problems because of a company with cable and satellite owning a substantial number of cable channels, it's not as bad as I initially thought. Wouldn't be too different from what all Comcast has now with NBC Universal.Comment

Meh, I just don't like all this consolidation. This is the kind of market monopolization that led to the Trust Busting Era of Teddy Roosevelt.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: AT&T buys Time Warner for more than $80 billion
That's pretty much how it is in Canada. There are other cable companies but they're mostly regional and don't have a big impact. It's just between Bell and Rogers and it's pretty stagnant in terms of competition. It's probably one of the reasons why the CRTC has put the gun to their heads and told em to offer something akin to a la carte packages by December.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: AT&T buys Time Warner for more than $80 billion
Other than bringing AT&T more revenue when people cut the cord, the deal doesn't impact much. ÁT&T doesn't own content producers other than what DTV already owned.
They will have to provide the same price to other providers like Comcast has to do for what they own. They could make some shows available early or only for AT&T, but that may cause problems with other cable companies.

Same. I hope the deal gets denied. This type of stuff is part of the reason I'm with PS Vue.
