    Re: Directv Now

I would need some sort of DVR ability.

I've also read that the launch of this was met with technical/bandwidth issues that frustrate people. If I'm forced to watch tv live then it better not studder or buffer like crazy

*edit* I do like that these are being options now, and hopefully eventually it's all like this. One concern is bandwidth usage though, would my internet go up too high and then have to pay more?

Depends. I have xfinity with 1TB cap and I've never used more than 600 GB of data a month. I use PS Vue for cable.

So maybe this was too good to be true:

If I can't watch the Cavs and Tribe, then this is no good to me. I was talking to someone about it and he has Sling, which apparently as regional sports networks as well. It's a little more a month, but still way cheaper than cable. Plus they have a DVR in beta right now. Going to see if the issue with Directv Now gets resolved before making a final decision.

ps vue should have your local sports. Think you have to enter your zipcode and it will give you the local sports channels on the core package and above.

PSVue and I believe Sling, both have local Fox Sports channels. OTA antena for locals (although you may be in a area that gets locals with PSVue) has worked great for me since the summer.

You can't do the free trial then get the Apple TV even if you pre-pay after the free trial. You have to pre-pay when you start the free trial to get the Apple TV and there are no refunds. I'm a little hesitant to commit without trying it, but it would be nice to get a 4th Gen Apple TV for free. My main concern is whether I'll be able to watch Cavs games on it, though I talked to someone who's had no problems with the blackouts for Cavs games. I guess if I need to cancel, I can just re-sell the Apple TV for what I paid for the pre-pay.

                  Re: Directv Now

Jumped on this with the 3 months prepaid for the ATV 4 since my Vue was about to reup for the month. Its not a ton different than Vue other than the lack of DVR, but I have been reading that they plan on adding DVR down the road. If nothing else, I got 3 months of tv service and a ATV for less than what I would have paid for an ATV alone.

They've added a DVR of sorts:

If you haven’t canceled your subscription already and are still enjoying DIRECTV NOW, you will be happy to learn that a new feature has been implemented into the service this morning. From what DIRECTV details, users can now use the ability to rewind TV up to 72 hours... #DIRECTV #DIRECTVNOW

Not perfect, but at least you don't have to watch everything live.

Not a great look when your service is down for nearly 48 hours within you first 2 weeks of being live

My service wasn't down 48 hours. It was down for a couple of hours last night but I'm not sure that was Directv's issue. I read they use a company called Bluehost which possibly had some DDOS attacks last night.

I did it...kind of. I canceled my free trial and then went to my local ATT store and signed up with another email account and walked out with the free ATV.

Be careful with that, it is mostly marketing. DTV has had that on the receivers for a while and the few times I needed it, the shows aren't available. For local stations, they also need to be in the guide, so for me it's no use because I can't stream them.
