Re: Amazon Firestick vs Amazon FireTV

I've had both. The fireTV is noticeably more snappy than the stick.
The other obvious difference is that the stick doesn't do 4K.

Pretty sure the same is true of the different Roku devices as well.
    Premiere handles 4K , the others can't.

      Monday Night Raw (USA)
      Its Always Sunny (FXX)
      The Detour (TBS)
      Premier League Soccer (NBCSN)
Various Sports (ESPN, ESPN 2, ESPN U, CSN)

Its not that I need 300 channels but I need a package that has a diverse lineup of channels and something like Vue wont work for that. I get that most people arent like me though.

One other thing is I dont like having my cable connected to my internet. I've had situations where my internet has gone down for days and needed repair. With something like Vue, I wouldnt be able to watch TV until the internet is repaired.
I know this isn't your point, but funny enough Vue has all of those channels except PBS (which you can get with an antenna).

LOL. I realized that after I posted it.

The reason I prefer cable over Vue is if I got Vue, I would have to get their top tier which is $65 plus I would still have to pay for internet which is $70-100 for Verizon in my area (Comcast is the only other option and its crap). So I'm at $135 with 90 channels and I still need a antenna to watch CBS and PBS.

With Verizon, I can get 270 channels (110 in HD including CBS and PBS) for around the same price. So the value isnt there for me.

One thing people get messed up is the reason your cable bill is high has nothing to do with you having 300 plus channels. The reason its high is because the big networks charge cable companies alot per subscriber. ESPN charges cable companies $7 a subscriber. Thats just for ESPN. On the flip side, a channel like ESPNU costs less than 10 cents.

With that said, if I wasnt a TV nerd I would consider cutting the cord but that will never happen. In my den, I have a 3 TV setup that is running ESPN, ESPN 2 and FS1 simultaneously right now. I need cable.

Yes...Vue is a nice option. It gets sort of dicey if you have multiple tvs in various rooms around the house. You need additional devices to handle and a strong wi fi signal.

Haven't had vue. Currently using directv and sling orange. Dtv has a MUCH better UI. 100 channels for $35 (price goes to $65 tomorrow). Orange gives you about 25 channels for $20 & just 1 stream.

Dvr and 5 streams is a big plus for vue.

Back to what was said earlier vue has all those channels aaron mentioned plus the dvr and streaming from multiple devices.

Its perfect for me and if i dont have to I'm never going back to pay tv.

The issue with local channels is that only owned&operated stations are the ones that get put on these services (Vue, Sling, DTVNow). I believe, if I am wrong I apologize but I'm 99% sure that's why we don't get locals in most markets.

Due to FCC regulations and profitability, there aren't many owned and operated stations left in the US.

for those that have the firestick.
Is there a way to remove all the menu items so there are just the icons you use??

I only use the ps vue and kodi app icons.
Then there are all the other icon on there that confuses my wife.

Is there any way to remove all that crap?

To a point. There's built in ones. But if that's all you generally use, they'll be the first 2 choices.

Re: Amazon Firestick vs Amazon FireTV

Tried cutting the cord like a year or 2 ago. That only lasted a couple of weeks maybe a month. Tried Kodi, but the quality was trash on a lot of content. Tried sling tv and even with 100mbs hard wired it would still pixelate and cut off. It was driving me nuts and the app quality was awful. Then, I finally tried PS Vue and it was a lot nicer than the first 2 options, but 3 things about it drove me nuts. 1) Only 720p 2) No 5.1 sound only stereo and 3) many of my sports channels were missing. After about a month I caved in and went back to cable. I think the simplistic nature of watching cable made it easier for my wife and kid to watch tv too.

                          Exactly!

I got my cable/internet bill down enough to where the ease of use was worth it....plus having the DVRs.

My big concerns are the streaming quality and worrying about data caps too...Add that to the more annoying ease of use and no real DVR, it just isn't amazing yet. I more hope that this causes the cable/satellite companies to adapt more.

yeah. when a cable company comes to my town, I will definitely get the internet cable package deal with them.
The only problem then will be having all the cable wires and crap. another reason I like using the vue and firestick is because its all wireless and you don't have cable boxes all over the place.

I just did the exact same thing.
I cut the cord and went with DIRECTV NOW. Wow what a mess that was.
It was only $40 but I had to pay $60 a month for my hi speed wifi so I was at $100.
My cable was $180 for wifi, cable, and home phone.
After a week I knew I couldn't stay with Directv Now. It would cut out every 5 minutes or so for about 10 seconds each time, it drove me crazy.
Also a lot of my channels would be missing from time to time, especially my Fox Sports Ohio which I must have. And the kicker was no local channels.
I am now back with Comcast and I cut HBO and limited cable to just two rooms and my bill is $150. Still more than I want to pay but it is so much nicer.

Not me. Its much cheaper than when i had tv with direct tv.

Im not missing channels i already watched including fox sports and i have no data caps with a 300mbps connection.

I'm sure location matters but i havent regretted dropping that satellite company even for an hour.
