Don Rickles passes away at 90.

Legendary Comic Don Rickles Dies at 90

Extremely sad news. One of my favorites of all time. Yes, Mr. Warmth, and possibly could be known as Mr. Politically Incorrect. Very sad day.

So inspirational to other comedians. Celebrities would come to his shows in hopes to of being lampooned for notoriety.

Roasts were amazing, stand up was amazing. One of my all time favorites with Carlin. RIP.

Can you imagine hanging with Rickles in his heyday?

Another legend gone. What I remember him most are his roast, no one better.

Don Rickles paved the way for many comedians that have tried his schtick but NO ONE was as good or quick on their feet like he was. He was one of the most politically incorrect and insulting comics ever but he exuded a crass charm that made those he insulted actually feel HONORED that they were being eviscerated by him.

          R.I.P. Don Rickles

There will never be another like him. There are raunchy insulting comics these days that can't even hold his mic much less be in his presence.

If you watch the Miller interview (of sorts) above, they talk about the "insult" factor, so to speak.

I love this line from the article:

"Rickles would come onstage accompanied by the old Spanish bullfight song “La Virgen de la Macarena,” a subtle signal that someone was about to be metaphorically gored."

Re: Don Rickles passes away at 90.

Some of you younger guys who like the irreverent comedians of today should check out Rickles' many YouTube clips from various talk show appearances. He really mastered the art of poking fun at everyone, including himself and his own religious/ethnic background without having to get overtly sexual, gross or profane. Always found comedians who could deliver that are much more intelligent in their comedic style versus those who don't or can't pull that off. Thing about Rickles is that he was typically always "on" in an improvisation mode. He said himself that he couldn't tell jokes and instead just played the moment, ready to zing you in regard to anything you might say or how you present. I think part of it was there was seemingly more of a camaraderie with they group in their hey days: Sinatra, Carson, Martin, Davis Jr., Newhart, etc.

This video (which is very long and wouldn't expect anyone to watch the whole thing.....but it is hard to look away once you get going) seems like a perfect example of what it must have been like to work with the man. If I were an extra on a scene, I think they'd have to throw me off the set as I wouldn't stand a chance of not laughing most of the time.
