You specifically pointed out that it LOOKS like Windhorst has never played basketball a day in his life, then brought up Ed Werder.

Thus, someone responded with Ed Werder never playing football. You based Windhorst's abilitly to do his job on his appearance and not Werder.

I find it interesting how personal a lot of people have made this. You can say a lot about yourself without even meaning to.

I'm never happy to see people lose their jobs, especially in a situation such as this. I'm just glad that many of the people I do enjoy watching/listening to made the cut. Repairing the network isn't an unfixable problem, but I don't think the higher ups have a grasp on what sports fans want to see. It's going to be interesting to see what the network becomes in the next few years.

A lot of people have been cracking on NFL Network, while I praised it. When I said what I did, I was thinking that NFL Network had NFL RedZone. Then I re-realized that RedZone is its own thing completely, not attached with NFL Network.

So I take back what I said. Yeah, programming on NFL Network is mostly lousy. I do turn it on to GMFB in the morning though when I already have seen all the MLB highlights.

The one thing I will praise NFL Network for though is they didn't give Aaron Hernandez a lick of publicity after he killed himself. They thought it was a non-football story and that the draft was more important; they were correct on both accounts. ESPN on the other hand ate that up.

NFL network does have it's own RedZone which they own and operate.

You mean on Sunday? They do, it has two things against it:

                1) It has commercials.

                2) It seems they are not allowed to show live content, only highlights after they happen. Must be something contractual that only RedZone has a license for or something.

It's a good alternate to someone who doesn't want to pay for RedZone, but for those two reasons I wouldn't quite call them comparable.

I'm not sure what you're referring to but I'm referring to the one they own and operate that is live and goes between games and is commercial free. It operates exactly like Direct TV's Red Zone channel.

I have DTV so I don't know if it's a pay channel but I see it on at bars when I go out for games. I don't know if it varies by Cable Service but I know when I had comcast I got it for no additional cost to the package that carried NFLN.

                  Edit: Here you Go:

NFL RedZone from NFL Network is a "special" game-day exclusive channel owned and operated by NFL Network since 2009. It broadcasts on Sundays during the NFL regular season from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern (10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Pacific). RedZone provides "whip around" simulcast coverage of all Sunday afternoon games airing in-progress on CBS and Fox.

RedZone is based out of the NFL Network studios and is hosted by Scott Hanson,[1] and airs commercial-free. The channel prides itself on showing "every touchdown from every game," and is closely linked to Fantasy Football,[1] reporting superlatives and tracking various statistical accomplishments throughout the afternoon. RedZone monitors coverage of the traditional Sunday afternoon 1:00 p.m. "early" games and 4:05/4:25 p.m. "late" games.

                    Re: ESPN Cleaning House

RedZone is owned by the NFL Network. There are two versions, the cable version (hosted by Scott Hansen) and the Direct TV version (hosted by Andrew Siciliano).

The DTV version exists for so it can tie into Sunday Ticket. Siciliano will say things like "press button X to tune into this game live if you want to stay with it" and IIRC it also has the Sunday Ticket channel number for each game while they show it on RedZone so viewers can easily bounce around to a dedicated game if they want to.

The NFL Network runs NFL Gameday or whatever it's called on Sundays. I think that's what Blazer was referring to.

The RedZone channel is $5/mo from Comcast. With DirecTV you can do it PPV per Sunday ($50 a week, which is idiotic) or buy it for the season, forget what the cost was though.

The DTV version is definitely not owned by the NFL. It is independent. It's tied to the NFL package for sure, but it's owned and operated by At&T.

It's never fun to see people lose jobs. The reality is with a shrinking sports media landscape, it's going to be tough for these people to find consistent work in the industry, and many will have to consider some form of a career change.

As someone that went through layoffs/cut backs at two newspapers and ultimately had to transition into another line of work, I know what this group is going through and I wish them all well.

That program doesn't run on NFL Network though, correct? I mean, not on the same channel that I would use to watch Good Morning, Football.

It's the most transparently contrived of the "debate" shows. The hosts seem to really get along so when they "disagree" it comes off as rather disingenuous at least IMO.

You'll be glad to know they canceled that show at freed up that time slot.

Instead, they put Smith and Hill on the 6pm Sportscenter. Personally, I love their contribution, and I'm glad they made the cut.
