That had more to do with projects like the Joaquin Phoenix Joker movie.

Was that ever confirmed, or just speculation along with the Cavill leaving Superman rumors (also were those ever confirmed)?

        Re: Aquaman (2018)

Yeah, that was all largely confirmed.

        - Affleck out
        - Cavill out
        - Amy Adams out

And DC movies all largely stand on their own:

'Moving forward, DC’s superhero films will be divided up into what are ostensibly two separate categories. Some will be films that are technically still set in the same DCEU continuity as*Batman v. Superman*and*Justice League, but instead of cramming everything into one strict ongoing narrative, the films will be allowed to breathe, focusing on individual characters and the specific vision of their respective directors.

The other half will be totally unrelated films, like the*upcoming Martin Scorsese Joker origin story, that will be totally outside even that continuity. Those films, which will be released under a new, as-of-yet unnamed side label, sound like a bizarro-world opportunity for filmmakers to play with DC characters no matter how they’re being portrayed in the other set of films. (For example, Jared Leto won’t star as The Joker in the origin film, which is set to be directed by*The Hangover’s Todd Phillips.)

As DC Entertainment president Diane Nelson puts it, going forward “there’s no insistence upon an overall story line or interconnectivity in that universe.” Instead, Nelson says that audiences will “see the DC movie universe being a universe, but one that comes from the heart of the filmmaker who’s creating them,” rather than the more intertwined storytelling we’ve seen so far with Zack Snyder’s films.'

I did have a good time at the movies. Not every attempt at comedy worked and I agree with DieHard that the film was a little too long (poor pacing)and some of the scenes were forced. Some things just didn't make sense to me (not going into detail). Overall, I appreciated the director's vision as I really thought that this was one of the best looking comic book films I've seen from a visual standpoint. I was really impressed with the cinematography. I thought all the performances were solid but I thought the screen writers missed an opportunity to make Orm's cause somewhat sympathetic in the sense Killmonger was in Panther..
EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.

            Aquaman (2018)

I’m in the minority, but I really liked Justice League for the most part and obviously Wonder Woman was really good. Now Aquaman is great too and Shazam looks like it might be a blast. Of course they finally get the DCEU on track after Cavill and Affleck may have exited smh. I’d really like to see a Batfleck solo movie.

It’s the winter of Dolph, man!

Saw the move this past weekend, I really enjoyed it. It looked visually really good. The story was fine and the action pretty good. Patrick Wilson's Orm was an excellent Villain. Wasn't expecting to enjoy him as the villain as i did. I'm down for a sequel.

Saw this about a week ago and thought it was pretty good. Its no WW but it was good and considering how bad most of the DC movies have been its just nice to have a good DC movie.

Yeah I agree a good movie is a good movie no matter if it is part of a CU like the MCU or if is just its own thing.

The scene where as a kid the shark tries to rescue him from the bullies was painful, him not knowing Mera even though she references the time they worked together... There were no less than 5 explosions in the middle of random conversations, it was like Michael Bay makes a superhero movie. After the third one in the first hour, my dad and I just started laughing. Pitbull's music is prominent in one scene... This is one of the worst theater experiences I've ever had, I could go on and on. Brought to mind some of my least favorite movies, Phantom Menace with the sea battle reminding me of the Gungans, Man of Steel (Superman is my guy though) but this was kinda like if you took the first half hour of that on Krypton (my least favorite part of the movie by far) and stretched it for 2 and a half hours. I don't think the movie is terrible, it's just mediocre, the bombast of the special effects makes up for it at times and detracts in others, but the movie was 45 minutes too long. In a year where Infinity War and even Mission Impossible had long run times but breezed through, I felt every second of this 2 and a half hours.
Agreed 100%. There were cool elements to it, but often times I felt like I was watching a CW produced show especially with some of the script (and it's not that I've liked all the Marvel scripts, as I see Thor 3 as the worst of the lot). Had that "over the top" feel to it with all of the outfitted creatures and advanced weaponry along with the light show. Ashame as I've always like Aquaman (and Batman) as primarily a Marvel guy. I think the sound tracks and background suspense music by and large did not work, as well.
