    Finding a Song/Singer...w/o lyrics

How do y'all find a song when you don't know any lyrics? I heard a song tonight at a restaurant and ended up humming it all the way home, but I can't figure out who sang it because I can only hum the background. Also, it was a girl singing

Any ideas how to figure something like this out? Before I go mad please?

    Thanks!

I hate when that happens, especially when you try and describe it to us. The problem is if you were descriptive enough, you could find it on a Google search anyway.

I'll tell you my favorite instance of finding out a song, and this is exactly how I found it out:

Turns out the answer was in the eighth link:

The song is called Tom's Diner:

OS has twice found songs for me as well:

Embarrassed that I never knew the names of those songs at the time.

lol, I remember the same thing happening to me one time. Had a small part of a song stuck in my head and tried explaining it on this site, and nobody could ever figure it out. Luckily months later I happened to stumble across the song and realized...it was a song I already had on my playlist, just probably hadn't listened to it in years.

Glad I'm not the only one lol. This beat has been stuck in my head for the past 3 freakin hours!

There a way to add a recording to a post? I can hum the background beat (all those sites that claim to help you suck at it).

I don't know how the likes of Shazam and such work, but if you're close enough to the song with your own mouth, could it find it for you? Or does it only know songs by their audio signatures?

Shazaam never understands my accent (originally from the sticks of Georgia)

I tried to hum and all that with Shazaam and others I found on Google and nothing came up with anything.

Its a song with a steady beat and a girl with a raspy voice singing. The whole song is very rhythmatic (is that a word? lol). Honestly sounds like something Avicii, The Chainsmokers, or someone like them would do.

So I had an epiphany last night and remember a partial lyric. And sure enough, the Google made my dreams come true. It was Lilly Wood & The Prick "Prayer in C".

              Thanks for the conversation y'all!
