BEST (Character) IN (the) SHOW
Ok, starting with an open-ended thread so we can customize this for new shows along the way. Got a little stupid creative with the title too! There will be 8 choices tops per show. If you submit less than 8, I'll just make a dummy blank spot. (If you've submitted an idea and have more than 8, let me know which ones you want to include). We'll run the voting for about 5 days/show.
We are now presenting Frasier for your vote of the best character in the show.

Re: BEST (Character) IN (the) SHOW
Although I liked Daphne her storylines became more significant around season six when the powers that be started the countdown to her union with Niles. She was a good presence before that but her best value came from arousing a smitten Niles all the while being oblivious to his interest.
What got me hooked on Frasier was the relationship between the gruffly retired cop father (Martin) and his two intelligent, pompous, but good hearted sons. But since the dad was living with Frasier they connected more in numbers and in the way the show was driven.
Have to go with Frasier. He took the popular Cheers character to a new level. -

Easily Niles for me. Him early on getting flustered in every encounter with Daphne was hilarious. And his endless excuses for his wife never being present were great, too.Twitter: @TyroneisMaximus

Re: BEST (Character) IN (the) SHOW
I think Frasier was the better character but David Hyde Pierce did the best job with his portrayal of Niles.
What he got the Niles character to do on screen, particularly with the Daphne story, were astounding and left me in disbelief.
Frasier was a bit more "likable" but Niles was a bit more witty.
I went with Frasier. His constant search for love, recalibration of his life from Boston barfly to Seattle elitist, really just greatness.Comment

Re: BEST (Character) IN (the) SHOW
I'm actually going Roz, I'm a dork for women with radio voices and hers is solid, and she's like what I'd imagine a grown up Darlene from Roseanne would be like.
Come to think of it, Roseanne would be a good candidate show down the lineWolverines Wings Same Old Lions Tigers Pistons Erika ChristensenComment

Bulldog. He's not a main characters, but I like all the main characters about equally. Bulldog is a much needed craziness.

Re: BEST (Character) IN (the) SHOW
This is another really difficult show for me to pick ONE character. The interaction between Frasier, Niles and Martin was rock solid. I especially loved the Niles/Daphne dynamic and felt the way they built up that relationship over the years was one of the most organic and natural progressions done in a sitcom format.
It comes down between Niles and Daphne for me. I actually had a crush on Jane Leeves while watching that show. What can I say? I'm a sucker for accents. Her character was also quite a bit eccentric as well.
In the end I think i'll go with Niles. I don't think Frasier would've been nearly as successful if he didn't have someone who was his intellectual equal but also capable of hard biting wit.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: BEST (Character) IN (the) SHOW
I feel the same way about that relationship, although it surprised me when they went in that direction. One of the funniest scenes, when Niles was in "Aroused By Daphne" mode, was when he leaned over to her, smelled her perfume, and then asked Daphne, "Is that Forbidden?" to which Frasier replied, "In every sense of the word!". I assumed it was just going to be a running gag of futility that would eventually end one way or another.Comment

I like Daphne for how fresh she was but her character in the last few seasons turned into a neurotic, annoying mess.Comment

Re: BEST (Character) IN (the) SHOW
Niles for me. All his lines about Maris were great and besides the great dialogue, he was by far the best slapstick/physical comedian on the show. His germaphobic tendencies were funny too, like always wiping the chair after Roz sat in it and his banter between him and her were some of my favorites.

Re: BEST (Character) IN (the) SHOW
I'll say one of if not my favorite exchanges/lines in the entire series is from Niles. His delivery was unreal sometimes.
Kathy: These eggrolls are delicious.
Niles: I, uh, made them myself.
Kathy: Really, a psychiatrist and a chef? Impressive.
Niles: Yes, well they both came in handy when I cured the ham.
And then when Frasier is unwittingly "dating" his new producer who happens to be gay,
Niles: There's something I have to tell you. Dad wanted to, but I won the coin toss.
And his work for Daphne was unfathomably good. He (and she) really made you feel deeply when things pertinent to that storyline happened. Particularly in the Moon Dance episode, during Donny's proposal to Daphne, etc.Comment
