    Re: The Punisher (2017)

Watched the first episode last night. I really enjoyed it. They make you empathize with him so well.

I've seen a lot of mixed reviews on this from "They nailed it" to "Misses the mark."

The biggest knock on it from reviewers is that it doesn't seem to fit the MCU. How the military and FBI are just normal entities and there is no Hydra and not really any mentions of other characters in the MCU other than Karen Paige.

But I'm fine with that to be honest. All of these Marvel shows don't need to be attached at the hip. I'm not sure if Daredevil plays a part in this or not. I haven't read any spoilers.

But yeah, I don't think this should be penalized for taking a more true to life approach and should be judged on its own merits.

Should I watch all the other Marvel series before this? I've already watched Daredevil S1 & Jessica Jones now on to Luke Cage.

I don't think you have to, Most of his back story is told in the first couple episodes, but I would probably watch Daredevil season 2 since Frank Castle played a prominent part. But it's really required to understand what's going on.

You absolutely must watch Daredevil season two. Besides being Frank’s debut, it is in my opinion the best Netflix TV show they have done yet.

Loved both DareDevil seasons, although season 1 is my favorite. That said, I'm on episode 7 of Punisher and thus far I have it ranked with DD Season 1. This is EXCELLENT.

One of the coolest things about this show is how involved Bernthal and everyone else is with actual veterans off camera.

Yeah, he is really into that. He's just one of the good guys that kinda bucks the whole privileged Hollywood thing.

It was good but they could of cut down on the number of flashbacks.

I haven't looked at any reviews(I usually don't for any of these series) but saying that it doesn't "fit" the MCU is IMO an absurd evaluative framework. Even for some people who think they like the character of The Punisher, this story may not be for them. I've only gotten through 3 episodes so far, I can't binge a show like this, I need time to decompress after the intensity of each episode.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

I just finished it this morning and I'll agree about the intensity. This was like being in a damn boxing match and getting hit hard. I really liked the writing and I felt like there wasn't a drop off in the story. I could see some wrestling with some things we actually deal with but I won't spoil those. In the end I thought this was really well done and give it a 9. Bernthal has embodied the ethos of this character and given it his own twist.

The flashbacks didn't bother me as it did for some. I thought they added to the weight of what the character was feeling and going through.

To me this and DD Season 1 are the best. This was definitely Gritty.

I guess I could write it off as the intensity, but living in Vegas I'm maybe just not ready to watch so many people get shot in a TV show.
