Punk Rock in the 80's and 90's - Where were you?

Going to KU in the 80's and living in Lawrence until '98 meant that I had access to one of the best venues, viscerally, for punk rock during this era. And some fine folks have finally finished up their documentary on the legendary Outhouse.

Some of the best shows I've seen were Fugazi, SNFU, Circle Jerks, and so many more. Oh, I was also at this:

To be honest, Nirvana was forgettable. 24/7 spy was one of the best shows I've seen in my entire life. It was packed and nuts. I was the front, suddenly face down on the stage while still standing on the floor, with people falling over the top of me. I finally crawled up on the stage, eventually sitting two deep, as the crush was out of this world. I had to keep my head down to avoid getting nailed by the bass player. The next night I saw the Rolling Stones at Arrowhead, with binoculars. My friends were so excited for that Stones show, but man, it was just so, nothing.

Anyway, here is a couple of trailers for the Outhouse documentary.

Saw The Replacements a few times in the 80's, as you might imagine the shows ranged from mind-blowing (The Fillmore, SF) to forgettable (The Palladium, LA).

Also saw The Ramones, Lords of the New Church, Specimen and a bunch of cool bands on the Broadway strip in SF back in the day. Good times.

I was born in 1987 but due to two older brothers, I grew up around punk rock and Bad Religion is my favorite band of all-time and it's not even close. Other favorites include No Fun At All, Pennywise, and Offspring.

One of the very, very few benefits of living in Los Angeles is being able to see Bad Religion live. Must be about 10x by now. Always my favorite show.

I never saw Bad Religion, which would have been high on my list. Kinda weird they were such a big part of Crazy Taxi's soundtrack. But I have hard time playing the new one without them and Offspring in the background.

It totally added to the game as a fan of these two bands.

Being in high school in the late 80's and living outside of DC, Fugazi, Dag Nasty and Bad Brains were always good times.

That was my best times. Hanging out in the Berkeley scene with Billie and Mike and some other guys I grew up with. That was before they blew up.

                  where I was-
in the 80's: listening to metal
in the 90's: listening to grunge
