BEST IN SHOW - MAD MEN

Going to resume the polling with something other than a comedy. This has certainly been one of my favorite shows to come down the pike in the last 10 years. Thanks to Fresh Tendrils (I still don't know what that means!) for submitting several shows. We'll see how the response is on this one.

Everyone check your man crushes and vote in this poll for:

Peggy Olsen because of her ambition as a working woman in the 60's and the fact that she's played by Elizabeth Moss. A very close second would be Don Draper but he couldn't even have fun with sure thing Linda Cardellini. He was too dour and too self-destructive, but a great character.

One of my favorite scenes having nothing to do with the way I voted.

For me its between Pete and Peggy so I'll have to think about it a bit. Peggy for all the reasons Jaybee mentioned and Pete cracked me up a lot with his smugness and was smart moving up the ladder.

Don was too much of an a-hole to be my favorite but loved how he worked a room, the best pitch man in tv history. Also no one made smoking look cool like Don.

Ya, Don is that lovable character who initially can become your favorite. Then, when you really examine him, there's a bit of a cringe factor. Of course, this proves how well Hamm played the role.

Of course, there's two REALLY good reasons to vote for Joan Holloway, but that might be a bit obvious.

        But here's mine:

Don is my ****ing guy. He's one of my favorite characters ever. So many of his lines I remember. Him and Tony Soprano are the coldest dudes ever and I love them for it. One of the best pilot episodes ever to establish a character:

"You're born alone and you die alone and this world just drops a bunch of rules on top of you to make you forget those facts, but I never forget... I'm living like there's no tomorrow, cause there isn't one."

When the dude who works under him is giving him ****:

          "I feel sorry for you."

"I don't think about you at all." Don

          Arguing with Peggy (paraphrasing):

"I do all of this hard work and you never say thank you."

"Thats what the money is for!"

          Love the dude.

As much as the show is centered on Don and revolved around his path of self-destruction (and coinciding collateral damage) to self-acceptance I think Peggy's character arc is more compelling. While they both basically come from nothing she fights through and earns respect in a world that was built to be against her.

Don is my favorite character, but Peggy is the best.

I gotta say I'm happy every time Joan appeaars on screen. Arguably the sexiest character on tv. Besides the obvious two reasons, its just the way she carries herself, posture, style, the way she walks to the way she smokes a cigarette will make guys melt.

Joan was great, too. Her evolution, while not as stark was Peggy's, was great to watch.

There are so many great scenes. For me it's a toss up between Don hanging Duck:

Well, this has continued to dwindle in response. I'll do one more with a modern comedy of "New Girl" next, but if the voting is poor, I'll close it off.

Is there a way to vote on the mobile app? That could have something to do with it.
Either way I'm surprised Peggy did as well as she did. I thought Don would run away with this one.

Good question for a mod. I don't use the mobile.

I think the sample size was too small. But it did get me watching the series again.

Oh wait.... it's 10:30 AM ET. Time to prep for the meeting!

In season 2 of this now, and I've gotta say for those who have been considering re-watching this after the original run, the replay value is top notch..... so many nuances.

I keep forgetting about these, I'm way late to vote now but it would've been between Don and Joan.

Have you guys been posting a reminder at the end of the old thread when a new one is posted? I get stuck in my subscribed threads sometimes and forget to explore the other sections

It's a website.... I don't think reminders are coming. It's up to you to check back. Various guys are starting other ones, but I don't think the responses have been much better.
