    MS Excel Question

I am helping my dad recover from an operation.

While he was in the hospital, MS office did an update and he can't get into to spreadsheets he was using because MS Office is asking him to upgrade.

He has MS Office 2007 on a Windows 10 computer.

If you right click the file, there is a option to "restore to previous version." Is that what we should click on?

Currently, those two spreadsheets have green X's on them and there are prompts to update both of them.

He is 79 years old and doesn't want to upgrade, he just wants things the way they were.

    Thanks.

Update: Found out they are shutting down support for MS Office 2007. All one needs to do is accept the terms on the second prompt.

    Re: MS Excel Question

How was it even possible to get office 07 on a windows 10 computer? I have win7 and even that had office 2010 on it.

As for the update, you can still open it using Google spreadsheet, or just an app on phones and tablets. I'm not sure about if it's possible to keep office 07 though. Might be completely phased out for lack of support and security reasons.

      He did do it.

And, it looks like they are forcing him to upgrade.

He can't input any values into his spreadsheet.

I'm guess I shouldn't be surprised that MS forces older people to pay more for what they had.

Yeah, I know, I thought we had the problem solved by not paying for an upgrade.

Dad found out this morning he couldn't input some new numbers in the spreadsheet to replace the old numbers.

Not sure what direction to go into now. lol

Office 2007 EOL shouldn't render the program useless, as MS is just ending support for it. I haven't seen anything on the interwebs describing what you are experiencing. You could always try a repair or reinstall of '07, if the install package is still accessible.

Another option is installing an open-source suite like LibreOffice. Libre functions pretty similar to Excel, it is able to open pretty much all spreadsheet file extensions, and usually does a good job of maintaining basic formatting. Best thing, it is free...if he doesn't like it, the program can be removed.

What exactly happens when he tries to enter a number in somewhere? Does it pop up with an error message?

Is it possible he just bumped the Num Lock button? haha It amazes me how long it takes me to realize when I've done that sometimes.

Odd, he was able to start entering new numbers yesterday.

                Thank you everyone, very thoughtful.
