    Need help finding a song

    Yep, one of these threads.

I haven't heard this song in probably 15-20 years over my mom's FM radio, so it's likely that it's a mid-late 90s song. I want to say it is of the pop genre, and the best hint that I can give is that the opening/closing/break riff sounds a lot like what you would think "vampire music" sounds like. I think it's even on accordion. I bet I could even still actually hum that riff if I wanted to, but I'm not going to record myself doing that just so I can find the song.

I don't think the song has anything to do with a vampire (nothing like "Muahaha I vant to suck yore blud!"); the singer doesn't even have a deep voice either, and mostly it seems like just a pretty normal song beyond that... though I don't actually know the words at all either.

There is another part of the song that I think I know (basically the main tune of it), but I don't want to be confusing myself with another song and leaving a trail of breadcrumbs in the wrong direction in case it's not. So for now, just think 90s vampire pop song lol.

I'll know it immediately if someone points it out. Thanks.

EDIT: Actually even better yet, it has a bit of a waltz vibe to it. Kind of has this sound, but remember this is not how the tune goes. The riff is about that tempo, but the lyrical content is mostly double-time to that.

    Get that singing voice ready!!!!!!!!

In iphone's iOS 8 you can hum to Siri and Siri will respond by saying something like "I can name that tune." And then it proceeds to do so I believe.

You can also try these free apps

      Strings instead of accordion?

^ Definitely not those two, sorry ITT. Though I do love Bitter Sweet Symphony's riff and am now glad to have a name attached to it. I'm thinking the only instrument it could be besides accordion is maybe a pipe organ, but I really can't think of any other instrument it may be. I'd have to hear the song again to know for sure is all.

And Picci, I've tried some programs before but not Siri, and they don't seem to know it unless they have an actual matching audio signature (that's what I tried to do to identify songs for The Show batter walkups by isolating the stadium music from the crowd noise, but it still wouldn't register it... nor when I hummed it haha).

I'll get it someday. I gotta think of other hints to drop before I start humming anything to you guys. I will try the Siri thing at some point though, but I doubt I'll get it that way.

Re: Need help finding a song

Nope, but definitely not a bad effort.

Would it help if I said these songs sound too poppy? I wouldn't doubt if they could somehow classify the song I'm referring to as R&B as well, but personally I think it's more "boy band pop" than anything else.

(I have no idea if it's a boy band or not, but that's what I'm trying to get at)

Thanks for helping, all. Maybe I just dreamed up whatever song this was when I was a kid, or maybe it's not as popular as I seem to remember it.

For the record, I didn't really like it much as a kid, probably more so because that riff than anything else... but since I have grown up I am wondering if it's something that I will find much more fitting and less standoffish, like I'm willing to give the song a chance again and see if it actually had some pretty good stuff in it, lyrical content included. Problem is, again... I don't know the lyrics.

                      Warmer, colder, totally off?

Dig into your brain Blzer because we need more info. Is there only one singer or are there multiple singers? Male or female? The genre is something between Pop and R&B? Is it something that would have possibly been on like something like a Billboard Top 100 or more obscure?

Is this is a song that you only heard heard once 15-20 years ago, then theoretically couldn't it be older than the late 90's?

Re: Need help finding a song

Haha neither of those are it, sorry. I really do appreciate the help, though!

Okay, so I'm trying to be as detailed as possible (and trust me, I'm only remembering from memory here and it's pretty bleak). Here's what I'll try and add:

                        - That riff I'm talking about? The time signature plays at a 3/4 measure. The verses and such plays at 4/4, from what I can remember.

                        - Male singer. Pretty soft sound, so nothing like Smash Mouth.

                        - I honestly can't generate the chorus to save my life, that or what I'm thinking is part of the verse is actually a part of the chorus.

                        - Honestly, I would probably hum it for you guys, but I couldn't at the same time. You know how accordions are (assuming that's what the instrument is), they have so many sounds that it just wouldn't sound right.

                        - Maybe it was early 2000s then? I really, really don't think it's older than the late 90s, but for all I know it could be.

                        - I have searched some charts and haven't had any luck, and I think the big issue is I can't land the genre. I'm not great with genres, and just assumed that it was closest to pop. But then I heard some R&B and was saying I know how it could be argued to fit in there, but most of all it kind of just reminds me of "boy band pop," though it's definitely not from like Backstreet Boys or 98 Degrees or anything. I'm not saying it's like this song, but I keep jumping back to it in my head with how the vocals play with the instruments in the verses: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWycaJZMKvQ (The Cab - Bounce). Definitely is a more mellow song than this, though.

I suck at this. I just was hoping maybe it was popular enough that people might have actually known what it was from the "vampire" hint.

You know what the saddest part is? It's likely that if I find the song, I'll find out that none of the hints I provided even matched the song itself. In a case of that magnitude, I probably wouldn't ever even reveal to you all what the song was, haha.

This seems to have the elements, but is probably too long to have been a pop hit at all.

Nah. However, although so far none of these songs are it, I'm really liking most of the ones I'm hearing here, so I think there's a nice silver lining all the same.

I would really just say for most people who would even bother helping me at this point (bless your souls for trying) to definitely refer to my OP link if you're going to try and match the opening riff. I think it has the closest kind of sound to it than anything else.

Honestly, part of me really feels like I made up this song now.

What I'm trying to do is use one of these virtual keyboard programs to see if I can almost recreate the sound of the main riff, and then try and showcase this one unique part that is playing over in my head from the verses.

I do think it's one of those things though that if you don't know what song I'm talking about from the information I've given, then it's likely you might not have heard the song before and it would be impossible for you to track down if I can't do it myself at this point. I can't pinpoint the right genre, year, or amount of popularity for this thing. It was at least radio popular, that's the most that I can say.
