    John Mahoney Dies at 77

The actor who played Frasier Crane's dad in the popular sitcom gave me many hours of entertainment.

Back when Frasier and Friends started, I was partial to Friends. By the end, I had come over to the Frasier side of the fence. Best sitcom ever, IMO, and I've seen watched it in its entirety 3 times. Loved Mahoney and his character...RIP.

to most everyone else he's Martin Crane but to me he will always be Kid Gleason.

Very incredibly sad news. I came to Frasier much later in my life than I should have considering I always loved Wings and Cheers but I'm glad I did. Martin Crane's character was phenomenal.

Mahoney was also very memorable in his appearance in a Cheers episode as the sleazy jingle writer Sy Flembeck as well which helped him GET the Frasier gig! Pretty amazing story about this in Ken Levine's blog from a while back http://kenlevine.blogspot.com/2006/1...didnt.html?m=1

Frazier was one of the very few sitcoms that transcended the genre and became something more akin to quality, live theatre...

John Mahoney was the hub of that wheel...

RIP, he was a great actor.
Although I hated Frasier with a passion, I did like some of his work.
