    Anthony Bourdain Dead at 61

I'm gutted. I loved his shows, he was an interesting guy and he spoke out about a lot of important issues as well as his shows. News is saying it was a suicide while he was filming an episode in Paris. RIP.

Makes one wonder what the pressures are/were. Aware of him but I don't get into cooking/eating shows at all.

This shook me. I had just told my wife a few months ago that if there was one person in the world I would trade lives with, it's him.

Aware of him but I don't get into cooking/eating shows at all.
There is definitely cooking and eating on his shows, but in no way would I call what he does a cooking or eating show. His show was about life and exploring cultures around the world. It was never about the food, it was about the people he was connecting with, and what he could share about these different places and cultures.

Man I’m in shock right now. He’s one of my favorite celebrities in the world. When he did his shows about Philippines and the Filipino people, I was so happy to see someone outside the culture know and experience the heart of the Filipino.

He did a tremendous job opening the world to other cultures and I’m sad that the adventure ends. Thoughts for his family and to the people who has known him across the world.

          RIP Chef

Love Anthony Bourdain. Real inspiration. Dude fought some real demons in his life, and became a champion for those who felt hopeless.

Rest in Peace sir, you are now among the angels....

Terrible news, I know he was a champion for a lot of causes and his shows were far more than just eating/cooking shows. They were travelogues that dealt with the very real lives of people in those communities.

R.I.P. sir you will be sorely missed.

Val Kilmer goes off the rails in addressing Bourdain's suicide.

He's not necessarily wrong regarding certain points.

Cannot stand that "selfish" argument people make. The kind of pain and depression you have to be in to do something that drastic takes precedent over the bills and responsibilty to dependents left behind.

I feel like it's almost a fake argument just to deter people, which is proof that so many people do not understand mental illness.

I'd like this post one thousand times if I could.

                        And RIP Mr Bourdain.

No sympathy for people who commit suicide. Your responsibility is to take care of family. Suicide is the cowardly way out. We all have issues, deal with them. As far as I know, there is medication to help battle depression.

The Just World fallacy/argument is very much wrapped up in certain aspects of Christianity.

As a Catholic i'm glad the Church has done a 180 on their stance regarding suicide. A lot of the arguments about suicide are jaundiced by the hundreds and hundreds of years of teaching that it's a sin and a selfish act. I feel horrible for any person who is so depressed and lost that they take that dramatic action. There's no way one should criticize what the person did to get out of their misery.

A proactive and caring approach to mental illness is the key to curbing suicide and solving these issues. Condemnation and calling these victims "selfish" does nothing but harm IMO.

If he didn't value his life enough to keep on living it, then I don't think anyone should value it enough to continue to glorify him.

He killed himself. Alright. Whatever. Enjoyed his work but hey that's done now I guess.

Feel sorry for his kid. Yet another abandoned child who will also grow up with incessant problems that will manifest themselves in some way at some point.
