    The Witcher (Netflix series)

Henry Cavill has been cast as Geralt.

Curious if all the folks here that have put 100s of hours into the games have any interest in the show.

      Re: The Witcher (Netflix series)

I've gone back-and-forth with the video game series. I like it but then for some reason stop playing. I won't get into the specifics but I'm going to give it a third try on PC.

Anyway, I've been reading the first book and really like it. Actually has me more excited to play the the third game. And it has me excited for this series.

Based on what I've read, this series should hopefully give the video game players (that didn't read the books) more of the Witcher story they've wanted.

Plus, you have to feel confident when Henry Cavill is a huge fan of the books and video game series. He knows the character and I'm sure he brought some of that source material to the Netflix show.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

"You'll not find more penny-wise/pound-foolish behavior than in Major League Baseball." - Rob Neyer

This show was good. Really good for a first season.

Book fans and game fans will really dig it.

I feel like this is a total love or hate show. A lot of people really hate it, in a weird way I can understand why, but nevertheless for me, halfway through the season, I really love it.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

Have watched half of it so far...fantastic.

Really well done, captures the Witcher vibe much better than I expected.

              The show is awesome.

I'm not sure how it's being perceived by people who aren't familiar with the books or even the games, but most of the people I know who have watched it have had almost nothing, but positive remarks.

I went to Rotten Tomatoes just to see what's going on and most of the contributor reviews are negative, but the audience reviews are overwhelmingly positive. I think that's the key.

I only care about ratings because I want to show to continue.. don't truly care what someone at Entertainment Weekly has to say when they admit in their review that one reviewer watched 1 episode and the other skipped from 2 to 5. You can hear the tone through text that they don't have any interest in the genre so they go to metacritic and give it a 0 (ZERO) out of 100.

I say people should give it a shot and if they don't like it that's fine because I'm sure some things can be a bit confusing for non-book readers or even people who played the games.. **** a review though. Most of them are garbage.

                Re: The Witcher (Netflix series)

I've played about half way through the first Witcher game, so I'm familiar enough with the setting. A friend of mine was only aware of the Witcher franchise's existence prior to the show. We both love it.

For the little bit that I know of Geralt, Cavill aces him.

I do wish that they had made it a little more clear that the story was telling different time lines. It took me a couple of episodes to realize that. I think the show's pacing probably would have benefited from telling the audience that little fact.

****ing great show and despite how I didn't like the casting of cavill, he is doing a great job.

My only complaint I have is how the made my girl triss look completely forgettable.

Personally, I liked that they didn't tell us. I love when a show expects its audience to pay complete attention, and be able to follow the story without any hand holding.

I don't know. There is a difference between making an audience think and providing an incoherent timeline. The story didn't really benefit from the "a-ha" moment when you realize that we're going through time skips.

Just finished the finale. I can't believe that they left it there without a season 2 already in production. Great show.

To be fair, she was pretty lame in the game too, so I think they did great with her lmfao.

I do think they missed an opportunity with the casting of Renfri. That actress should have been Triss imo. She was good.
