If they somehow involve Steph Curry in this they will make a ton.
Every kid I know loves either LeBron or Curry.
How cool would it be if Curry was the head alien?

You're right, the original wasn't the greatest movie ever (I think the best Looney Tunes thing in the last 20-30 years would be Looney Tunes: Back in Action. You should watch it again. It isn't as bad as the reputation it garnered) but it was a worthwhile experience. I especially love the opening to the movie with "I Believe I Can Fly" playing along with images of MJ.

I don't think it's a matter of "ruining" a good thing but sometimes the whole need to re-imagine already popular works for another generation feels lazy in some respects. As a for instance, the great Indonesian Martial Arts movie The Raid is being remade and turned into just another military/war movie in the vein of Black Hawk Down. Do we really need that? I guess so.....

I realize that i'm basically the Grumpy Old Man fighting against the tide when it comes to this opinion but still....Not that all remakes are bad. I'm actually looking forward to the live action Lion King remake.

Nothing is being tarnished. Space Jam is still out there to buy and watch. You can act like this movie doesn't exist if it helps.

I don't have a problem with it. I just don't know if the Looney Tunes are relevant anymore.

By the way, the original Space Jam website is still up, and doesn't look like it has been updated since the movie first came out haha.

People keep saying they don't think Looney Tunes is still relevant or if kids even know who they are now.
The same thing could have been said when the original Space Jam came out in 1996 and it did pretty well. lol
You do realize LT's cartoons were last produced in 1969 right?
As a father of an 11 year old, I can tell you for sure that my daughter and her friends are very aware of who the LT characters are.

There is a big difference between saying "not relevant" and "not aware." I'm talking about riding them when they are high. As far as I know, the LT characters aren't in any current running programs. Even if they were, the average children's age is getting younger when it comes to exposure to more adult-oriented material.

This can still do just fine. I'm just saying their relevance isn't quite the same as it used to be. LeBron James is still relevant as ever, so that is going to be the big draw obviously.

They have been making new LT cartoons for a while now. It’s not as popular as it was before but having these characters in a movie could boost popularity back up with the younger kids. No one knew who the character from Frozen were before Frozen movie.

There's also so many more things nowadays so kids have lots more choices. And LT stuff is typically the higher priced toy items as well, so parents probably just opt for the cheaper stuff.

Though you'd obviously also have parents who'd go and get their kid LT stuff and have them watch it simply because they did so as a kid. I remember even as a kid I loved watching the old school LT stuff. I think it was from the 60s or 70s, but still held up decades later.

I didn't know they were still making the cartoon, but yeah its popularity has dwindled tremendously. It could certainly boost their popularity and get a new resurgence, I don't disagree with that at all.

Though maybe my point isn't coming across the right way. Let's take the new Slender Man movie, for example: myself and others said it probably came out like five years too late. Am I saying that because I think that people don't know who Slender Man is? No way, anyone around the internet or a high school will have heard about him one way or the other. It has nothing to do with awareness. It just has to do with relevance.

Take LeBron James out of the movie and put in another star like Russell Westbrook (or take the real parts out completely), and you can bet that film would flop. When I was eight years old and this film hit theaters, I didn't need Michael Jordan in the film to attract me to the film. I just needed the Looney Tunes. MJ was a big plus and it frankly got me to learn his career story better, or what I imagine it to be.

Anyway, different analogy but same take-home message... Kevin Smith said the same kind of thing about Mickey and his friends: "Nobody cares about a mouse in pants anymore because they can watch porn on the internet." I frankly have no problem with this film being made, I plan on seeing it, and I hope it does well. I just hope the audience comes and gives LT some love along the way, because I can see this teetering another direction entirely.

                            Good point.

It really is not that big of a deal. But if kids dig it......it’s all good.

I don't see the big deal either, its for the kids not us. Plus the original was terrible anyway, it was so cool back then just see our favorite NBA players mixed in with Looney Toons.

Also just watching Lebrons appearance in Trainkwreck, he's already a better actor than Jordan
