R.I.P. Stephen Hillenburg creator of Spongebob Squarepants

I'm frankly a little shocked that there's not a thread yet about this considering the general age demographic of this site. The world has lost one of the most unique and fun creative voices in animation. Truly Bikini Bottom is a little less brighter without Hillenburg.

What? No way! This really came out of the blue for me. I had no idea he had ALS. This is such sad news.

When he left the show as producer it went way down hill. When he came back a couple of years ago, I thought it was going to go back to its roots... yet it never did. Not in art direction, voice-over mannerisms, zaniness and chaos, grossness that the show picked up, and irky main characters. Season 3 was the peak of the show and any time I get a chance to see/reminisce on an episode that early on I stop at nothing to acknowledge its presence.

It was one of the only cartoons that my daughter loved that I loved watching with her!
We have seen every episode multiple times together.

Passed a billboard on my way to work this morning.

It was solid yellow, with SpongeBob's face crying on the right and on the left it said "Bye, bye Captain 1961-2018".

And now I'm sad at work.

When spongebob first came out it was immediately one of the rare cartoons for kids that, if my son left the room, or fell asleep, I'd keep watching anyways. I like to think there are 2 kinds of people, spongebob or patrick. I'm a patrick.
