Yeah but they're going to lose a lot with the launch of Disney+ (of course to gain it back over a decade of time).

I don't see how Disney is going to lose money by launching Disney+.

Um, because they cut ties with Netflix and Hulu? Or because they are producing expensive original content upon its launch? Or because they created thousands of jobs dedicated to building, operating and maintaining the service?

Don't get me wrong, their historical items alone will keep them strong for a long time, which is why they'll see profit from this thing sooner than later. That doesn't mean they won't start out "in the red," though. Not overall, just as a result of launching this service. And I didn't mean when they hit the launch button money will go down the toilet. I meant when you consider what they had to do to get to that launch versus doing nothing, they'll be out a considerable amount of money in comparison... for a short while, of course.

That shouldn't affect anything they want to do with Spider-Man, either. I'm just thinking this would have been an easier decision for them to make a few weeks ago when this debacle first came to be. Disney was being greedy about this to begin with for a reason; hell, they even went "against their morals" and brought James Gunn back because money. Just saying that it comes at the forefront of this company, not unlike other companies but still.

I'll tell you one thing, for sure: I have Netflix, but I ain't gettin' Disney+. Many others will feel the same. This isn't going to launch to the 140 million subscribers that Netflix has on Day 1. You're going to have to wait at least five years to see numbers like that.

I've been using Disney Life the last year in the Philippines which has basically most of the Disney properties and I use it quite a bit with having kids at the house all the time.

Also really excited for The Mandalorean and the Marvel shows they will be coming out with.

Re: Spider Man OUT of the MCU.

Disney+ is going to print money, and over the last several years they have banked $20-26b in profit annually.

$10b is probably too low for the Spider-Man rights, it would be a more complex flat payment + profit sharing or distribution agreement most likely.

Kinda hope Apple just buys Sony and the rights revert.

Oh I dont known I dont find a lot of things out side of sports to be worth watching and I find new shows just suck and with Disney and there long history of movies and cartoons and shows they have a lot to watch even with out new stuff. I am much more incline to get Disney + and never use Netflix again and I know its price will go up over time but its day 1 price should help it to get of to a good start. I think you are underrating just how big Disney is.

I have heard people say the same thing about Amazon buying Sony but if the rights revert why would Apple or Amazon want to buy Sony's movies? They dont really have much out side of Spiderman. I dont get it.

Yeah but in general Disney can afford it.

There is no need for them to be greedy like they have been

How did anything I say prompt you to think I thought this? The Walt Disney Company is one of the largest in the world. It does have many subsidiaries though.

They've got quite a catalog, they've released nearly 1000 movies. Apple and Amazon both have marketplaces to curate, the catalog could be used either for exclusivity or as a revenue source as it's sold to others on their services.

Cut ties with Hulu? They bought it out and have majority control of Hulu.

There you go, see how little I know? Way, way too many subsidiaries lol.

At any rate, I don't suppose we'll see their stuff placed on there anymore now that they want to push it all to Disney+.

Actually anything that isn't kids friendly will be on Hulu. Everything else will be on Disney+
