    Gaming Laptop

Long story short, I have a gaming desktop already. I built it a few years back, and I absolutely love it! However, I am getting back into streaming and the way our new house is, it would be a pain to use the desktop for streaming and editing.

Does anyone have a gaming laptop or any suggestions as to what I should look for? My current laptop is a cheap Asus I got 7 years ago in college, and it is about on its last boot up.

Price range is probably around $800, but have a little wiggle room... obviously would love lower prices, but I am doubtful there is a decent gaming laptop for under $799.99.

It all depends on what type of gaming you want to do. If its FPS games, you need to play on a desktop or really expensive laptop. If it's just noncompetitive FPS or almost any other game, you can get something that will play some games. You'll have to lower settings and make sure you get a GPU in it, so it may not be worth it. If you have a desktop that is good, you probably won't like the experience.

      Thanks for the response!

This is for more of the setting up the streaming from my consoles, and then doing the editing on.

Might be a little over your budget but the Predator Helios 300 is excellent for its price.

I dont have any specific suggestions, but As long as you dont mind playing games on low settings then most any budget gaming laptop should be ok for you, with emphasis on the processor for streaming.

The Helios Predator that was mentioned appears to be one of the best values given the components listed. Microcenter has it for 830.

That’s a good deal. You get an i7, 16 gb of ram and 1060 card in an ips 144hz monitor.

Small Ssd but you can do what I do and carry another ssd, put it in a case with a usb c connector and load up all your games on it.

I personally stick to Asus ROG and Acer Predator but have friends swear by Razer laptops.

I also prefer thin laptops I can actually bring around. I went with a Predator Triton laptop with a 1080 max q card but I experienced the Asus Zephyus and Preditor Helios and all of them are great.

You’re gonna be fine with 1060 or above for a card to play sports games. All the laptop series I recommended will have a 120hz or higher refresh rate and will look buttery smooth at 1080p resolution.

Keep in mind the more powerful the card the hotter it’s gonna get and bigger the power brick most likely.

You have to ask yourself your main purpose, is the laptop gonna stay in one location or are you gonna take it to other places because if it’s one place you can get one of those huge monster laptops that give you better cooling and you’ll get better specs for the price.

For me I travel every month so mine I have to be able to bring it in a backpack. The power brick is pretty heavy so I’ll often also put all my gaming stuff in a carry on luggage.

It is nice though to have if you travel a lot. Being able to have my 2k/Madden/FIFA franchise anytime is great and you can connect it to a monitor or tv if you want.

Another big plus is if you edit videos or photos, most of these laptops will be beast in editing on the go.

Keep in mind battery life is horrid on these laptops so you’re really not gonna game with it on the battery or bring this laptop around like a MacBook. You’re gonna need power all the time to use it.

Checkout the ProStar/Sager brands. Great laptops with zero bloatware.

What would you guys recommend for the range of $750-1000? Not really wanting to stay "current" and don't necessarily want a primary gaming laptop, but would like the versatility to play some older games from this gen (Witcher 3, Batman Arkham, etc.).
