    Soundbar Connection question

Thinking of getting a soundbar for tv that has cable box and PS4 hooked up.

Is this the correct logic for connecting both?

I hook the hdmi cable from the cable box to a tv hdmi input (HDMI1).

I connect an hdmi connection from TV ARC HDMI to the Soundbar HDMI ARC In port.

The PS4 has an hdmi cable out to another hdmi input on the tv (HDMI2).

Would that work seamlessly so I don't have to change anything when using the PS4 rather than the cable box when watching tv?

    Thanks for any help...

Does your soundbar have optical? If so, use that, HDMI ARC can be finicky. But the way you have it hooked up, should work.

It does have optical but I read that HDMI gives you the best audio...but if I do hook up to optical, I would have to swap out when I want to watch tv vs using PS4, no?

HDMI technically pushes more bandwidth. You wouldn’t have to swap out though.

So what I am not understanding is if I use optical for both the PS4 and the cable box and the soundbar only has one optical in Port, how would I not have to swap out? Sorry for being so thick on this stuff.

Connect optical from Soundbar to TV. Run Cable Box & PS4 HDMI slots 1&2.

Use HDMI, everything can be controlled from the tv, turn on/off, etc. No reason to use optical unless you have an old TV. Since it's a sound bar it probably doesn't matter but most TVs don't output great sound.

Yes, I want to be able to use one remote to control the sound and channels. I actually don't have the soundbar yet...coming Saturday, but will try the hdmi hookup scenario first. I just want all devices to work without having to change inputs or use a different remote.

What model soundbar are you getting? IE: Sony, Samsung, LG

I am getting the bar for a hd Sony tv I have in the tv room where my wife and I watch cable and I play the PS4. It is an off brand but got great reviews. I just wanted a bar and a subwoofer to enhance the tv watching experience (and PS4) that was not expensive.

I do have a Samsung 4K tv downstairs where I watch movies on Netflix, etc. I use a wireless 5.1 set up. The system is called Enclave and is wireless but sub and satellites have to be plugged into wall for power, but no audio cable required back to main unit or receiver. It sounds awesome in my opinion.

If any other you guys are looking for a great soundbar, look no further. https://www.bestbuy.com/site/martinl...?skuId=4580300

Note: this one doesn't come with a subwoofer, however, you can use your own powered subwoofer.

It's a sound bar. What little difference there might be you will not be able to tell the difference.

This is my opinion as well. I'm not a super-audiophile, but I am interested in nicer audio setups, and honestly, unless you have one of those really sensitive ears (like apparently everyone over at AVS forums does), I honestly can't tell the difference.

I went with the HDMI Arc set up. Cable box and PS4 hdmi directly to Sony tv. HDMI Arc out from tv to HDMI Arc input on soundbar. No issues. Sounds great.

I know Optical would offer same results...I am just glad I don't have any HDMI Arc switching issues.
