Satellite Internet or Mobile Hotspot
Curious if anyone uses Satellite Internet and if so, what's your experience been like? Also wondering if it makes more sense to go with a mobile hotspot instead? Reason I ask is the neighborhood we're looking at is new and not currently setup for fiber or DSL.Currently Playing:

Re: Satellite Internet or Mobile Hotspot
Your talking starlink? {It's about 500 dollars. But from what I've heard it's great). But your not going to get fiber speeds. Also satellite can be interfered by rain and many other things sometimes.
A mobile hotspot is basically your phone. It's connecting to cell phone towers. So if you go that route. Make sure your cell phone have good connection in that area (or the provider does)Last edited by jeebs9; 05-27-2021, 05:03 PM.Hands Down....Man Down - 2k9 memories

Re: Satellite Internet or Mobile Hotspot
A new subdivision that isn't wired underground? I'm shocked they are allowed to even do that unless you are in the middle of nowhere.
Neither are going to be great. Satellite has caps and the latency is high, so don't expect to game well. Hotspot could be OK but you need to look into your options because a cellphone plan won't cut it unless you have a high cap. I have used hotspots fine but haven't tried gaming on it.
If in the middle of nowhere, there is a somewhat wireless option where they are putting something on the power poles on the street and depending on how close you are you can get good speeds.

Re: Satellite Internet or Mobile Hotspot
I survived on a island with only a mobile hotspot for 4 years and it did the trick for minimal stuff. It was rough though.
I had to download stuff at other locations and watch it later at home for most of that time.

I mentioned Starlink. But there are other services out there.Hands Down....Man Down - 2k9 memories

Re: Satellite Internet or Mobile Hotspot
I'd imagine as more homes are built (only 3 finished, including ours) we should have more options available to us. I'll need to make more calls, too, regarding this.
I do think the Hotspot option is the best of the two; Verizon (my carrier) has some good add-ons to my current deal that should provide plenty of data. I honestly won't be using the Hotspot for gaming, aside to download a patch or roster update. Otherwise, its mostly for internet surfing and TV streaming.Currently Playing:

Re: Satellite Internet or Mobile Hotspot
I'd only go hotspot if the cell reception is good. I've seen situation like this. It might be a year or 2 before internet rolls in. That or the town hall has to make some real noise.I'd imagine as more homes are built (only 3 finished, including ours) we should have more options available to us. Re: Satellite Internet or Mobile Hotspot
Check with the builder or city/county if they won't give you an answer. That should be one of the first things put in when they run water, sewer, and power lines. Now they may not have hooked the lines up to the main lines but that should have happened if they are already there.I'd imagine as more homes are built (only 3 finished, including ours) we should have more options available to us. If you have cable or phone already, then they may need to install some additional hardware in the neighborhood or set it up.
Generally a city or county will not approve a neighborhood without without all those lines being put in and paid for by the builders/development owner.
