What a crazy turn of events.

Not that I follow royal news, but only thing I read was from some random popup mentioning her health was declining. Not that I read much into that, thought it was just a generic headline from some popup ad.

Hours later we find out she died.

Might not impact the US as much, but Canada will be an interesting one to see. They've been under Queen Elizabeth since 1952. She's been on Canadian money ever since too. Not sure what the plans are now for Canada or if they'll continue being part of this royal stuff regardless who takes over.

I was much like you. Woke up to a headline that she was under doctor's care, which I took her having an illness and just being watched over. I wasn't expecting to be reading about her death five hours later.

King Charles III is no spring chicken himself.

As for for the Commonwealth of Canada, has there been any political movement to break away from the British Monarchy in recent years?

I don't know what the government's thinking or planning, but most people don't really seem to care as much (as in they're indifferent) about still being under the monarchy. Don't really feel it positively or negatively impacts a whole lot.

If there was ever a time though to just secede (or whatever the official term is), this would be the time to do it.

Charles won't last long anyways, and I feel like William and his kids won't be as prominent a figure as Elizabeth was. To me it just felt like staying the same for the sake of doing so as long as Elizabeth was alive. She was basically like the "grandmother" figure.

I'll bring the sports facts in here.
When Elizabeth became queen:

Only 8 current franchises in the NBA existed back then, just 2 being in the same city as they are now (Lakers were almost a decade away from moving to LA)

The NBA MVP award wouldn't exist for another 4 years

Wilt and Russell were teenagers

Mays and Mantle had completed their rookie seasons

DiMaggio had just retired 2 months prior

The LA Rams were the defending champs (winning just 2 months prior). This one I find eerie since until this past season, the LA Rams had never won since, not including the St.Louis days.

The SuperBowl was still 15 years away from being a thing

The NHL would be in the original 6 era for another 15 years

A young hockey player named Gordie Howe won his first MVP

Michael Jordan and Wayne Gretzky wouldn't be born for another decade.

RIP Queen. Its crazy she's been alive me and my parents entire life while she was queen.

I just had that the sudden urge to watch The Crown on netflix and its been fantastic.
