Question for the tech guys
Since the ps3 specs have been released, how much more powerful is it then the xbox 360?Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Tags: None -
Re: Question for the tech guys
Somethings that I don't understand, but people over at B3D are very smart. All the techie people are saying the two are a wash.
Design = subjective, however on paper, the PS3 hardware advantage over the Xbox360 ~0. Some cpu advantage, however we don't know real world efficiency for either (and assuming 6 SPE's if one is reserved for OS we have ~192Gflops which compares nicely with ~115Glfops for the Xbox360). If the r500 + EDRAM ends up having a significant advantage over the G70 (and the two seem a generation apart in terms of architecture) than the Xbox360 may v. well have some minimal advantage on the screen.GPU has 22.5 GB/s to external dram + 35 GB/s to/from CELL.
It seriously lacks bandwith.
I hope G70 is reserving to us some other surprise..Um I see nothing for X360 fans to be worried about. The PS3 doesn't even have any Edram to help with bandwidth. The systems are a wash in realworld performance. The X360 if anything is more efficient in 3 ways:
1. New GPU capable of running either vertex or pixel shader operations as needed by software.
2. Edram. (256GB/s bandwidth)
3. Even though complicated in its own right, the CPU is definately more staight forward than the CELL.
They both have the same amount of RAM, so no real winner there. Well actually, unified memory might give the X360 the advantage there too.
EDIT: Just pointing these out, they pretty much make up the difference between PS3's "brawn" and X360's efficiency. This is even closer than GC vs XBOX, but they both have the same amount of ram. Also, it looks like the PS3's HDD is just an addon while X360s is standard. (if it's standard some games will use for caching data) Just makes up a little for lack of Blu Ray, and again, what speed BR drive is that anyways?Go Noles!!! >>-----> -
