Re: 1 T-Flop to 2.18
correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't a T-flop or teraflop stand for 1 trillion operations in a second? So the PS3 will be able to do more than twice as many operations as the xbox 360Originally posted by xcelldarim31XBOX 360 has the former, and the PS3, the latter...

Re: 1 T-Flop to 2.18
whats the benefits of eachOriginally posted by FlawlessThe two systems are a wash. Both have advantages over the other. The systems are so freaking close that its going to be in the hands of the developers and the tools that they're given.
PS3
more powerful CPU
Xbox 360
Slightly better GPU
More system RAM - plus it's unified

Originally posted by FlawlessYes, but it's an advantage for the Xbox 360. The PS3's limit for video RAM is 256, while the Xbox 360 has an unified architecture, so they can opt to use more.
well maybe it doesnt matter that much to Sony...Nvidia claims to have created a GPU that is more powerful than 2 Geforce 6800GT Ultras combined for the PS3. we will see...all i know the games they showed at the news conference left many people speechless, especially Killzone 2. check it out at gamespot if u havent seen it yet.
[UPDATE 12] Sony unveils its next-gen console in LA; Metal Gear Solid 4, Devil May Cry 4, Tekken 6, Gran Turismo 5, and Warhawk redux confirmed. First pictures and video inside.

So what does that mean? Is Nvidia working with sony or xbox?Originally posted by cjkool69well maybe it doesnt matter that much to Sony...Nvidia claims to have created a GPU that is more powerful than 2 Geforce 6800GT Ultras combined for the PS3. we will see...all i know the games they showed at the news conference left many people speechless, especially Killzone 2. check it out at gamespot if u havent seen it yet.

Re: 1 T-Flop to 2.18
Ok my mistake, IGN and Gamespot misinterpreted what was said at the Sony conference. The nVidia GPU can write to any RAM on the system, so it can use more than 256, if they wanted to. I would give the slight edge in power to the PS3, but it's so close, and I wouldn't be suprised, if you couldn't see a difference in the games for both. It's really going to be up to the developers, and their creativity, art direction, ease in programming, experience with the hardware.
I'm glad I don't have to make a choice, because these are really two excellent consoles.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Re: 1 T-Flop to 2.18
Basically, the minor technological differences in the two consoles are all but irrelevant - you won't be able to tell the difference on screen.
For me, it boils down to a few different things, the main two being:
1) Online functionality. This is the 800-pound gorilla in the corner. Quite frankly, even the most partisan PS2 supporter would be forced to admit that Sony has nothing within light-years of Xbox Live. There's simply zero comparison here. Now, online play isn't important for everyone, but it's critically important to me. Xbox Live is being expanded on the Xbox 360 - in fact, it might be the system's most important feature. If PS3 still doesn't have anything to match up with Xbox Live, then as a consumer - it's over - I'll be going with the Xbox 360, with the PS3 as an afterthought... and I suspect that most online-intensive gamers would feel similarly.
2) Flexibility. This isn't nearly as important as #1, but it's nice. We haven't really seen anything concrete from either system at this point.
I'm looking forward to attending E3 and meeting with both camps to see what we can expect within the next year. I'm sure they'll both be excellent systems.Shawn Drotar
