ummm... I know at first they said that best-selling xbox games would be compatible, but that was just what they had acheived at that point. Xbox 360 will be completely backwards compatible with xbox games...

Originally posted by luv_mist1. Is the graphics core clock speed in any way related to the cell processor on the PS3? What does that 550 MHz mean or tell us compared to the 500 MHz from the 360's standpoint?
2. What does the embedded video memory do exactly? Will the absense of the EVM in the PS3 (for now since they're holding a few numbers/spec?) do something to hurt their performance compared to the 360?
3. Integrated communications for the PS3 only has the B/G while the one for XBOX has A/B/G (ready). That doesn't really matter too much does it?, but i'm sure it's meaningless.
4. What is the significance of the Cache? Will the MB of the 360 be a significant factor over the PS3's 512 KB
5. Can one of you break down the Memory Bandwidth? I see the different numbers and it looks like Sony has the upperhand there except that there's a number in the XBOX 360 joint that really doesn't click in my common sense on this stuff: 256 GB/s to eDRAM.
Xenos (Xbox 360 GPU) is a two core chip, the 256 GB/s is the bus rate between the Parent die (GPU) and the daughter die (eDRAM). About 3x faster than high end RAM of today.Last edited by Flawless; 06-04-2005, 07:24 PM.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Re: Gamespot: PS3 specs vs X360 specs
Now that's what I was looking for. Maybe nextime I'll just pm you and then copy and paste to a board for those interested like me. Yeah, from what I'm seeing, it's sounding like it's a close tie between the two. This is interesting me more. My friend and I were talking about the wireless network in church yesterday somewhat. I got a good understanding of what those things might mean. I think it has something to do with the amount of information swapped between the network and the console. He told me about some laptops having 2 of the three and therefore hindering their speed of collecting the information as quickly. Still, it is a little unfamiliar. Flawless, you're too darn smart man. Looking all that stuff up. I was lost after the first response. I'm better off now though which is great. I am determined to understand.Comment

The exclusion of support for A from 1 of the consoles will only make a difference to an extremely small amount of people, and even then, if I remember right, a lot of the wireless routers supporting A also supported the cheaper B format. For all intents and purposes, it's meaningless.
I may have gotten a few details above wrong, but that's the general idea.Last edited by tenth; 06-05-2005, 12:01 PM.Comment

The only thing that worries me about the next generation is how much longer will development be for these games. Right now it takes companies 2-3 years to come out with something. And if you're one that likes a particular series, that's like an eternity. Will it get longer? If so... *cries*Last edited by Sleeper; 06-05-2005, 08:23 PM.Comment

Re: Gamespot: PS3 specs vs X360 specs
I'll take longer for the first wave of games to develope and go gold, but the waves of games after that, dev. time should be significantly shorter since they'll get use to the systems and shortcuts, etc.

I just don't understand people who want the newest and best system available on the market on launch day b*tching about backward compatibility. It's an oxymoron: You want the newest and best right away, yet you can't let go of the past.
Otherwise, sell the Xbox and PS2 games and console, using the proceeds to help you climb into the future of gaming. That's what I'll do when I decide to move to the next gen.
If you have such a big collection of Xbox games that lack of backward compatibility is a big issue, then you probably are so into gaming that owning an Xbox and Xbox 360 shouldn't be a problem for you.
Take care,

The one thing I wouldn't mind would be using Xbox controllers on the 360. Extra controllers are expensive. I don't care about backwards compatibility. I might have played one PS1 game on my PS2, but after playing with the new gen stuff, you can't go back really.

Originally posted by pk500I've never understood the screaming over backward compatibility. If it's so important to you, then just keep your Xbox or PS2 and don't buy a new system. Or -- gasp! -- wait to buy an Xbox 360 or PS3 until you see how the first generation of software pans out and continue to play your old Xbox games to your heart's desire.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment
